From the time you were born, you relied on her. When you were young she was your inspiration; you wanted to be just like her. Now, you are almost an adult and you are just like her. (If you are me, you look just like her, too!) Here are 6 reasons why my mom will always be my best friend.
1.) She cares, but not because she has to.
Once you become a mom, it is basically your job to care for and about your child. My mom takes this to a whole new level. Whether it's a simple “love you” (with a million heart emojis) sent to my phone or a hug on a day I really need it, my mom always cares about how I am doing. She never lets me go unappreciated.
2.) She always listens.
Sometimes you think your mom is not listening to anything you say because she is doing a hundred things at once, and when you call her out on it, she repeats the exact sentence you said word for word; and you feel dumb. Regardless of whether I am talking about school work or sports or makeup, or something my mom has no interest in, she still listens and always makes sure I know that (even when she has a million more important things to do than talk about than the New England Patriots’ preseason starters).
3.) She encourages me.
I remember when I joined my high school school newspaper and she encouraged me to take on new topics that I had never written about before. One year later, I got promoted to editor. A year after that, I started writing for The Odyssey. This shows that when your mom encourages you to do something, you should do it, because moms are always right.
4.) She always knows what to say.
From the dumbest fights and stories I tell her about, to the small but seemingly big problems I face, she always knows what I need to hear (or not hear) to feel better. You would honestly think she has been in the same situations as you have.
5.) She knows my style.
Seriously, when she tells me she went to the mall and got me something, I turn into the heart eye emoji. Sometimes, I think she knows my style better than I do! She selflessly shops when she goes out, and although she doesn't come home with the shoes she was looking for, she finds the jeans I told her I wanted last week.
6.) She is the most loyal friend I have ever had.
Maybe it is because we live in the same house, but I can honestly say I have never gone days without talking to my mom when we fight, like some friends do. My mom has raised me to be the person I am today and I would not have wanted anyone else to. She puts the best in best friend.
