Why It's Great to Be a Millennial Right Now

I have never been into our nation's or even the world’s troubles. I just kind of stayed in my own bubble. I was always jealous of my mom living in the 80’s because I’ve always thought that it was the coolest decade. After the election, I have been giving myself some time to reflect on my feelings and thoughts about the world I live in. Just in the last week, I have witnessed the Cubs winning and Donald Trump being elected as president. It’s a great time to be a millennial. Right now in the United States, we are experiencing so much change. Is it good or bad you ask? Well, it’s a little bit of both. More than ever people are starting movements and protests to stand up for what is right. Almost every day on the news is some sort of group protesting and trying to make a stand. We are at a point in history that we have the freedom and we aren’t scared to stand up for what is right. I wish that many other people in other countries would have this right. As a young person, we know how to use our voice and use the technology we have to reach so many people.

In today’s society, we are experiencing a shift in power, and I’m talking about male to female power. We almost elected a female president. 15 years ago no one would ever think of that! Women nowadays are getting a bigger voice and we are standing up for equality. We are taking over the job market and even getting more women in charge. The power of women is growing.

As a young person, we were introduced to technology way earlier than our parents were. We have the sources to reach millions of people and learn about so many things we would never think about otherwise. The power is in our hands, and we can help a cause. Celebrities have the power to influence others by using social media. Our voices can be heard.

Our voice is getting louder. People are realizing that we as millennials are going to be controlling the world. Just look at the recent election, if they only counted our votes we would have had a different outcome. We are the future for this country and we can’t let the older people ruin it for us. Our generation (in general) is the most accepting out of all of them. Growing up, we were taught to love and respect everyone. We need to stop sitting here and learn to grow. Once in a while, try something new, and if you witness negativity make a stand.

Our generation is going to be in charge soon and I feel like as young people, we have the best chance at making this country proud. We are in the middle of witnessing a great change in this country. Instead of being divided we need to stand together. I am proud to be in such a great country and I think we need to remember what our country is founded on. We, as a whole, need to be more accepting and understanding towards each other, and we need to remember not to be weak. There’s so much negativity out there and people disliking us, so we need to rely on ourselves to be proud.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
