By far, the most common theme for all my articles has been sports. Anybody close to me knows that I’m a big sports fanatic and know about the impact sports have had in my life. After being a part of one of the most amazing sports celebrations in history last Sunday night, somehow I fell in love with sports even more.
Unless you live underneath a rock, you know by now that the Eagles have won their first Super Bowl. After decades of heartbreak and coming so close to a title the Eagles franchise and their fans can finally say they are Super Bowl Champs.
Me personally, I’m not an Eagles fan. My team is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have six already by the way, but on Sunday I had a very different feeling about the Eagles.
I watched the game over a friend’s apartment, I was surrounded by Eagles fans. As the game went on, I even started to yell at the tv. I could start to feel my pulse pounding just like every single Eagles fan watching, it was one of the best football games I have ever seen! But what was really the best part of the night was seeing the reactions of my friend’s after the final second ticked off the game clock. They erupted, with nothing but pure happiness and disbelief that finally their Eagles finally were Super Bowl Champs.
That’s one of the reasons why I truly love sports and think sports have so much meaning and impact in some people’s lives than some people think. That night got even better when we all decided to go downtown West Chester to celebrate with every Eagles fan within a couple miles radius. Right when we walked outside we could hear the chaos, there were at least 2 or 3 cars that were speeding down the streets honking their horns nonstop.
That was just the beginning, right when we made it there were cheers and yells and police everywhere, it was overwhelming, to say the least. After making our way to center city West Chester that’s where there were hundreds of strangers celebrating with people they have never met in their life. I got high fives and hugs from complete strangers but at that point, no one cared.
That night, even though I’m not an Eagles fan, is a night I’ll never forget. That night truly proved to me that sports have such an amazing impact on people and our society all around the world. If you don’t think so, you should have been in Philadelphia or West Chester last Sunday night. You would have seen exactly what I’m talking about.
Sports can have both positive or negative impacts on us and our tempers but no matter there’s no better feeling than cheering for your team until your lungs burn and arguing with opposing fans about whose team is better, all the smack talk. There’s no better feeling in my opinion. And for now, coming from a Steelers fan. I’ll only say this once. Fly Eagles Fly!
