If you are reading this article you know what Odyssey is. If you don’t, it is a voice for the millennial generation. Writers from colleges all across the nation voice their opinions about whatever is on their mind. Back in February 2016, a chapter of Odyssey was formed at Ursinus College.
The idea started with an editor from the school newspaper and now has blossomed into a great content community for the college. People from all walks of life, from each grade, each gender and a ton of different states contribute to our chapter of Odyssey.
I was one of the founding writers along with a few of my friends. I already wrote for the school paper along with doing feature sports article for the athletic department. So it was only natural that I would try my hand at Odyssey. Why do I stay? I am here to tell you.
Odyssey gives me the freedom to write whatever my heart desires. There are no specific topics, I have written article from sports to lifestyles. I have written articles about the New York Mets, Snapple Facts and other topics that I find to be important. I love the fact that there is a pretty lax deadline and no topic is really off limits (which today is rare).
I have had the opportunity to reach the masses with my writing, which is awesome in itself. Odyssey has also helped me sharpen my writing skills in more ways than I could have imagined. I have learned to balance my prose in way that people enjoy and I have learned to be very versatile. I can write solemn, yet silly content at the same time. I can write melancholy or I can write in an exulting way. I feel as though I can do it all.
I have even had the opportunity to write national branded content for Odyssey. I have seen what it is like to be a “professional” writer, and I have gained invaluable skills in that department. I have had to opportunity to see what real companies want with branded content and how they want their image to be portrayed, and I hope that I fulfilled their expectation wholly.
All in all I have had a great experience with Odyssey. I have learned a lot and I have done a lot. I hope to continue to work and grow with Odyssey just as it is growing now.
Sincerely,
Hunter G.
