BuckeyeThon happens every year during the spring semester here at the lovely Ohio State University. Over 5,000+ students danced the night away during this 24 hour dance marathon for the kids (FTK) of Nationwide Children's Hospitals. I decided to participate in the Scarlet shift which happened...
(sorry I had to put this in), until the wee hours of the following morning. I didn't know what I was getting myself into, 12 hours of dancing!? Preposterous! But it was the best decision I made to dance those 12 hours, because I met the most inspirational, unique,One Direction loving kids who fought and are still fighting everyday for their lives, 12 hours of dancing is nothing compared to what they had/or still have to endure 24/7, 365 days a year.
BuckeyeThon is not for you if you don't want to spend 12 hours of your weekend surrounded by charismatic overly-hyper people who don't care how badly they dance because they know it's for a good cause. BuckeyeThon is not for you if you don't want to see/meet the most amazing kids out there, ones who are willing to take this journey with you and in return hope that you will take that same journey with them into a life where no child ever has to endure what they have endured over the course of their life, and seeing the best in everything even if it means dancing like you have sand in your pants for 12 straight hours.
BuckeyeThon is not for you if you don't want to be cooped up in one place for 12 hours with 5,000+ students who by the end of the marathon become your extended quirky "Uptown Funk"-loving family. BuckeyeThon is not for you if you think you seriously have more important things to do on a weekend than helping out these amazing kids become kids again; seriously there's literally nothing else that's that important than seeing them dance around with us students of OSU, having fun like all kids should, and also by showing off their epic dance skills that put any professional dance crew to shame, and most importantly, just seeing them be happy. BuckeyeThon is not for you if you don't want to hysterically cry in the middle of the Union when we hit our goal of one million -- actually $1,231,290.11, but who's counting!?
But BuckeyeThon is for you if you want to say "I danced for a child for 24 hours so that they can be a kid again." What did you do this weekend? I? I white-girl danced to my favorite songs with an amazing student body to help those of the Nationwide Children's Hospitals, because I did it For The Kids.
For all of you who participated during BuckeyeThon, CONGRATS WE DID IT $1,231,290.11! FTK!
