When You're Feeling Down

Pick yourself back up.

When You're Feeling Down
Olivia Miles

Some days are harder than others. Sometimes you might feel depressed, anxious, stressed out, or 1,000 other feelings all at once. On days like these, it's hard to cheer up. You feel down and out; it happens. If you're looking for a quick pick me up, try out one of these things that always makes me feel better.

1. Watch funny animal videos

You can get lost in a world of hilarious animal videos for hours. I guarantee you won't be able to frown watching these furry friends act crazy.

2. Eat chocolate

Ever wonder why Professor Lupin told Harry Potter to eat chocolate after the dementors kissed him? Yeah, it's because chocolate actually makes us happy. Plus, it tastes delicious. It's a win-win.

3. Get some fresh air

Go outside and take a deep breath. Sit in the sunshine for a little bit and absorb some rays. It's amazing how different you'll feel after spending 30 minutes outside.

4. Listen to music

Jam out to music that makes you feel at ease. Pick your favorite artist, hop on Pandora for a jumble, or create a playlist of your favorite songs on Spotify. Classical music is great for relaxation and pop music almost always has a catchy tune that will keep you grinning.

5. Take a nap

Reduce grouchiness and anxiety by taking a nap. You'll be surprised at how much more attentive you'll be after napping. There's a reason they made us take naps in preschool!

6. Cry

Wait, this doesn't make sense. Why would I cry if I want to feel happy?

There's nothing wrong with breaking down and crying. Crying can be very cathartic. Getting out all of your negative emotions will clear your mind. Occasionally, we have to let ourselves cry in order to be able to move towards happiness.

When you're feeling like you've struck out, just remember that life isn't baseball and that "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.

We all have a love hate relationship with winter, lets be real here. The snow makes people forget how to drive, its cold, the roads are bad, and chances are, you will be spending a lot more money than you do during the other months of the year. If you’re from the Midwest, it seems to be that winter lasts for what feels like forever. But despite the struggles that winter brings, there are so many things to love about it.

The Post Thanksgiving Panic And Anxiety

It happens to all of us, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas the catch up with you.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.
