Stage 1: Panic
Your person is hurt and it's your job to save them. You call every family member in yours and their phonebook while simultaneously yelling at the paramedic in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Stage 2: Denial
You've managed to convince yourself that everything is fine. You're fine, they're fine, and nothing bad is going to happen.
Stage 3: Overly sensitive
One not so great possible diagnosis and you have completely managed to fall apart in a matter of seconds. Way to go.
Stage 4: Selfishness
Now, everything is all about you. You've been there with them through all the scary parts, and no one seems to care to ask how you're doing. A hug wouldn't hurt, you know?
Stage 5: Personal bodyguard
You've become the ultimate bodyguard, and nobody is going to try to cross you. This is your best friend and your best friend only. No one else allowed. Bye.
Stage 6: Food court junkie
By now, the cafeteria workers know you by name, and insist on giving you free food. This is an offer you can't resist, and you know your best friend would be proud.
Stage 7: 2nd-year resident
Yup, your person needs surgery. And because you know what all the big words the doctors are saying means (only because they've explained it to you 800 times), you're convinced you can and will scrub in.
Stage 8: Exhaustion
Everyone and their mother can count the number of bags under your eyes and are insisting that you go home and get some sleep. Even after admitting to how tired you truly are, you can't bare to leave your person's side.
Stage 9: The 2nd wind
Here we go. A rush of energy has overcome you and you can take on the world. Need their pillow fluffed, and more ice chips ASAP? You can handle it, no sweat.
Stage 10: Anxiety
SOS. Something bad is happening to your bff and you can't do anything to help. Someone needs to call a doctor, and someone needs to sedate you, because the loud screamy crying thing you're doing has got to stop.
Stage 11: Impatience
You have been in the waiting room for hours, and it feels as if it's never going to end. Someone needs to tell you some good news right now before you break down for the 1,000th time.
Stage 12: Relief
Finally, some good news. They've been discharged and you can now take them back to where they belong and celebrate with some cuddling and tequila, cheers.
