When You Give A 'Little' A 'Big'

An open letter to my big: thanks for being in my life.

When You Give A 'Little' A 'Big'
Carly Halitzer

To My Big,

Thank you for all you do for me. I may not seem appreciative, but I honestly do not know where I would be without you.

You of all people know that I am hard to deal with, but you always put up with me no matter what. Now, you are stuck with me and I hope you are ok with that because I am never leaving you. I am forever grateful that I found you out of the sea of girls because you are the one who is able to make me stay.

Without you, I would not be here. You have helped me transition into the sorority life because you and I both know that I am (still) not even a sorority girl, but having you around makes that a lot easier. If I had never found you I do not think that I would still be in a sorority. I am a non-sorority girl in a total sorority world and you are making it easier for me. You are my favorite part of being in a sorority.

I am not the kind of girl who likes to call people her “family” or “sister.” Honestly, though, you are like the family that I get to choose. I know I can always come to you and you will be there for me. Sometime, I know, I can be quite the downer when it comes to sorority things, but I hope I do not dissapoint you. All I do for the part of our sisterhood is for you. I hope I make you proud and you are happy to have me in your life because I am beyond happy to have you in mine.

There was always part of me missing and now I have found that is you. When I am happy you are the first one I want to tell. When I am sad you are the shoulder I want to cry on. You are always there for me through the good and the bad times and will always go above and beyond for me.

I even appreciate you through all the hard times; when you lied to me that you were not my big and I cried for days not even wanting to go to big/little reveal because I knew that we were the perfect pair from day one. We go together like the way a baseball fits inside a glove.

You have made the adjustment to a new school with a new life easier for me.

Thank you for coming into my life and thank you for being you. I appreciate you more than I can ever put into words and I will love you always.

Love, Your Little

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
