What They Should Have Told Me About High School

I wish someone would have told me this before I started.

What They Should Have Told Me About High School

Lockers aren’t Actually that Cool

They are such a pain to open up and if you happen to get the one that doesn’t actually lock you better hope no one else knows that, or your stuff will be gone.

5 Minutes isn’t Long Enough to trek Across the Building

I love how teachers always say well if you didn’t stop and talk you could make it to class. Uhm, no. If the building wasn’t so long and you would let me use the restroom during your class instead of having to try before, then maybe I’d make it to class on time.

Bullying is Real

You see it all the time even if you don’t realize it. Girls calling each other fat, ugly, or other choice names. Guys making fun of other guys because they aren’t athletes or because they are friends with too many girls. It doesn’t always have to be physical to be bullying--words hurt too.

Boys are Stupid

Taylor Swift had it right when she said “I've found time can heal most anything And you just might find who you're supposed to be I didn't know who I was supposed to be Fifteen.” You feel so much pressure to give up so much of yourself to silly boys to fit in or not to be called prude… turns out mom was right when she said the RIGHT boy will be willing to wait.

Girls are Stupid

We are the queens of deceit and backstabbing. It comes easy to paste on a smile and the turn around and say awful things about someone. Every girl is guilty of it. It took me a long, long, LONG time to not let it bother me.

Your GPA Matters

Teachers always tell you that your Freshman year sets up your high school expierence leading into college. Man, were they right?! If you do awful freshman year you play catch up the other 3. If you buckle down and start strong odds are you will finish strong.

High School Friendships don’t Always Last

Don’t get me wrong it’s awesome to have friends and go out and do stuff and have an awesome 4 years. But, don’t let some high school friendship define you or your life. Odds are 3 months after you graduate you won’t hear from most of your “friends” ever again. I’m guilty of it too. Life gets busy and college takes over. So be nice and make friends but, when you lose one don’t think it’s the end of the world--better things are coming.

Find the one Teacher that will Have your Back

I was lucky. I had a few teachers I really bonded with that made a huge impact on me and my life. They taught me how to survive high school.. Without them I don’t think I would have. All teachers aren’t out to get you or awful people. Correction most teachers aren’t like that. They are people too, with their own family, lives and sets of problems.

Have Fun

Most importantly HAVE FUN. You only get to do high school once. Don’t spend it trying to please of impress others. Have a killer time and do what you think is cool because no one else’s definition of the word cool should matter besides yours.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
