3 Things I Love About My Roommate

Three things my roommate and I love about each other.

3 Things I Love About My Roommate

Everyone has heard those dreadful stories about roommates not working out or roommates who are randomly assigned and are the complete opposite of who you are as a person. Then again, some people are all for the random roommates, that they consider it to be a good life experience. I don't disagree with one person's thoughts, however, I'd prefer to find a roommate I can become lifelong friends with. College is not highschool. I cant stress that enough. At college, there is such a vast difference of people and activities to get involved in, you will find "your" group of people.

1. They share their snacks with you

A good roommate always shares their snacks with you, and vice versa. My roommate and I have become addicted to muffins in a cup. Whether its 1 a.m. and you are both watching Riverdale and decide to make brownies in a cup or its the afternoon and you need a little pick me up from confetti cake in a cup, you always make each other one. If you haven't tried Duncan Hines, brownie, confetti cake, or smores in a cup, I recommend you take a trip to Walmart and get you some for those sweet tooth cravings or stress eatings.

2. They have the same morals, values, beliefs, and taste as you

A roommate who shares the same morals, values, beliefs, and taste as you is just great because you will get along better without dumb disagreements. My roommate and I have match Duvet covers, the same color scheme, and personal values, morals, and beliefs. There is nothing better than having someone who you can go to church with on Sundays. If Christianity is not your belief, that is okay. I would just highly recommend finding a roommate who shares the same attributes as you do. Our room consists of light up pineapples, elephants, the color blue and coral.

3. They are wanting to find lifelong friends

An important thing about college is that this is the place you will find your lifelong friends. When I met my roommate, we shared that same want. To not just be room mates, but to be best friends. From day one, we were close. My roommate is someone I enjoy sharing laughs, smiles, and heart to heart conversations with. When one of us does something like trip on the bricks in Charleston we laugh but pick each other back up. If you live in Charleston, you have tripped on the bricks at least once if not more. If we make a team or get a good grade on a test we will congratulate each other and be proud of each other. If we are stressed or something is going on in our lives, we are there for each other always, to comfort one another. Get you a roommate who is more than just a friend.

My roommate isn't just a girl who I share a room with. She is one of my best friends, a lifelong one. There is nobody else I'd rather eat snacks with, watch Riverdale with, or make the best memories with here at the College of Charleston. We both have left our small towns and ventured out into the city, a beautiful one filled with boutiques, great food, the ocean, and palm trees. Not only are we here to get a great education, but we are here to make memories and friendships that last a lifetime. A fun thing about us, is we are only one day apart! To all those going to college, find a wonderful roommate, and never look back!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
