If you know anything about me (or look at my profile picture on Facebook) you would know that I have a black girlfriend. Her name is Brittany, and she has been my girlfriend since December of 2015. I love her and I care about her more than I ever have with anyone outside of my family, and that is really saying something.
I will never forget the first day we met in the freshman quad at Stevenson University. It was a brisk fall night in September, and me and a group of friends went out to play catch. We met up with her suitemate at the time, a girl that I already knew, but I did not yet know Brittany. The moment I laid my eyes on her, I fell in love.
She stood there, looking shy and overwhelmed. I went to go talk to her while still playing catch. I admit I did try to make some one-handed jumping catches to try and impress her. Her easygoing yet distinctive personality brought a smile to my face just because she was so different from any other girl I had ever met.
Fast forward two years, and we are basically inseparable. I enjoy her company more so than anyone. We have done so many things together since becoming a couple, and I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed all of them. Now, we have had our ups and downs as a couple, namely some loud fights and arguments. (I apologize to our dorm room neighbors for that) We have seen the best of each other, and we have also seen the worst. A girl that has seen me at some of the lowest points in my life and still stuck with me is a girl worth keeping in my opinion.
Brittany is the most loyal girlfriend a guy could ever ask for. I can count on her for anything, as she is very reliable. I trust her as much as I trust my own mother AND grandmother, the two other most important people in my life. Trust is very important in a relationship, especially because we live an hour and a half away from each other when we are not on campus.
Right now, I could not be happier with Brittany. I am extremely glad she is in my life, and I am thankful she has been there for me all the times I have needed her. She is one of a kind, and she is all mine.
Notice how I didn't say anything about color? Well yeah, that has nothing to do with our relationship. A strong bond can go well beyond color.
