I think I started at a young age being aware of my body. For some reason when I was younger I would stick my belly out instead of sucking in. As I got older, I soon learned that I should be doing the opposite.
You may think this post is only for women, but even men, though they may not like to talk about it, have a standard out there of how they should look too. It's a universal human problem we have: body image.
People go to extreme measures to create this ideal body image. They want to create the perfect "beach body" or the perfect "model body." But let's take a step back for a second and ask some questions.
Who defined what the perfect beach body is? Who set in stone what a model body is? Why are these standards the only standards considered beautiful?
Especially for us women, I guarantee whenever your friend tells you they look fat that you tell them they're beautiful just the way they are. How often do you say that to yourself? How often do you envy the body type of someone else, but you find out they also think they are not good enough the way they are?
How ridiculous is that? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The only person that matters who thinks you're beautiful is you. If you don't think you're good enough or skinny enough or toned enough or whatever enough, then you'll never be happy with your body even if you have reached your ideal image.
I have not perfected loving my body the way it is. I know I don't fit the ideal body image that is plastered on posters, and there are days I wish all my curves away especially the ones that are not deemed socially beautiful. But I'm doing my best to be more and more aware of my negative thoughts towards my own body and change them to something positive.
Ladies and gentlemen, there's nothing wrong with being healthy and taking care of your body. If that means you loose some weight and cut out eating five desserts a day, that's ok as long as you love your body from beginning to end. The world doesn't deem you ugly, you tell yourself whether you're ugly or not. No one else can tell you what you are. If you love yourself, you will live a fuller life.
So look in the mirror from top to bottom and tell yourself that you're beautiful or handsome. It may feel weird at first, but it'll get easier as you continue to do it. Tell yourself every day when you look in the mirror. Make it a habit. Once you love your body, you'll want to take care of it, enjoy it, and be comfortable in your own skin.
Every body type is beautiful. What do these words even mean? Fat? Skinny? Instead let's use words like curvy, slim, toned, jacked, fit, full or some words like that. None of those words mean ugly. All of them are just words. You are as beautiful or as handsome as you tell yourself you are. I promise other people think so too (if that even mattered).
It breaks my heart that people believe there is a standard for what is beautiful or desirable for body types. You should be your own standard of beautiful or handsome. It's your body, enjoy living in it
