I would not be surprised if the hospitalization rate for heart attacks was abnormally high during Super Bowl LI. Not only was it the first Super Bowl in history to go into overtime, but it was an incredible comeback. Here is a description of watching the game as a Pats fan.
First quarter: Wow that went fast. Nothing too exciting happened. The score remained 0-0. They knew they needed to step it up, but we still had high hopes of that red, white, and blue confetti cannon going off in a few short hours.
Second quarter: Can we say letdown. We watched the boys get destroyed. The Falcons scored 21 points. Then the Patriots had possession and blew their attempt at a touchdown and had to resort to a field goal. Dreams were slowly fading, but we still had hope. We were all curious what Bill was going to say in that locker room during halftime.
Third quarter: Morale was still low. The Patriots did score their first touchdown of the game, but then missed the point after. The score at the end of the third quarter was 9 to 28. We had a lot of point to make up and not a lot of time to do it.
Fourth quarter: Hallelujah! This is the Patriots we know and love. Brady finally picked it up and something clicked with Amendola, Edelman, and White. The fans were on their feet as the comeback was becoming more and more plausible. Dreams that were already crushed began to rise again. White ran in the last touchdown and Amendola made the two-point conversion to tie up the game. Patriots fans were screaming, jumping, and standing on couches throughout the nation.
Overtime: The sweaty palms were getting even wetter if that is even possible. The Patriots won the coin toss and needed to score a touchdown to win it all. The offense was fired up and playing great with momentum on their side. Fans were silently praying and watching their team inch toward that end zone. Eventually, White ran that ball and crossed the plane into the promise land. The Patriots pulled off an incredible comeback that close to no one expected.
Post game: The moment that Patriots fans had been waiting for all season was about to happen. Roger Goodell was going to have to hand the Vince Lombardi trophy over to Brady, who he suspended for 4 games at the beginning of this regular season. Sadly, Goodell handed the trophy to the Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, all the while fans aggressively booed him. Luckily, Goodell later got to hand Brady the MVP trophy.
After 4 games without Brady to Gronkowski's season-ending back injury, the Patriots ended their roller coaster of a season in the best way possible. Luckily, Brady's father and ill mother got to watch their son win his 5th Super Bowl and Bill Belichick's girlfriend got to rock her Swarovski crystal Patriots jacket.
