I VOTED For The First Time

I VOTED For The First Time
EOnline!

This year I had the opportunity to vote in my first presidential election, so I did the right thing to do and I went out and voted. Honestly, I was not fond of either candidate, but in reality I had to pick one of them. I am not here to tell you that your political views are wrong. I am not going to fight with you over politics. I am also not here to tell you who I voted for, so please don't ask.

My first time voting in a presidential election was interesting. It was the first time I was allowed to vote in a presidential election, but it felt weird. It felt weird because everyone was having anxiety over it. It's scary when you see a group of people so scared of someone who is going to run the entire country for the next four years. As I was being handed a ballot I could feel the tension from all the people around me. It just didn't feel right to me.

The election did not feel right to me, but I did not unfriend people for their political views, I did not go out and riot over things. I did not make a big deal about it. People need to stop fighting with other people over their views. This is a free country, and if you do not like that go move somewhere different. If you have to unfriend someone because of what they believe you are a indecent human being.

Let me tell you how voting went for me. Its actually kind of funny. I had no idea how to vote and I had no clue what to expect. When I went in to vote I expected there to be a booth that I could press buttons in. Nope this was not a thing. I also expected to get an "I Voted" sticker. This did not happen. I was super disappointed about not getting that sticker, genuinely upset.

When I went into my job to teach my kids the next day my four year old's had on "I voted" stickers, but I didn't get one (laugh out loud.) Actually my four year old students had their own opinions on the election. Kind of scary, don't you think?

When I was voting I learned that it was possible to "spoil" your ballot. I went to put mine into the Scranton reader mine came back as spoiled. The gentleman just looked at me and yelled spoiled, it was horrifying. I was not even sure what that meant.

Turns out I voted for the same person twice and it happens more often than people think that it does.

The one thing that you have to know is Trump is our president now and we just have to accept that. No matter how much you do not want to or how much it may upset you it is the truth. As a country we need to be accepting of who people voted for and we have to just hope for the best.

Keep being hopeful.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
