Well you only get your wisdom teeth removed once, so I decided to write about my experience, inspired by a fellow Odyssey writer’s article. She wrote an article immediately after getting her wisdom teeth removed, still a bit loopy from the anesthesia.
You can read her article, here.
And so without further ado, here are my uncensored thoughts:
I thought I would be loopy, but I guess I’m not. I have always been absolutely terrified of surgery, but throughout the entire thing I was constantly reminded of God’s love through the acts of kindness from the doctor and the technician. Whether it was placing a hand over my own every time I received a shot of anesthesia or words of encouragement. Simple acts of kindness truly go a long way -- especially in a time where hate and violence seem to surround us. We keep fighting violence with violence, yet what is it that we are truly fighting for? We fight to be loved, we fight to be accepted and we fight for peace. I don’t understand the concept of using hate to fight for peace.
Apparently I’m supposed to rest, but I’m currently trying to convince my mom to take me to the beach. I mean what place is better to rest than the beach? I have to sneeze, but the idea of sneezing with all of this gauze in my mouth is a little frightening.
Although getting my wisdom teeth out was not a pleasant experience, documenting my state of mind after the procedure was definitely worth it.
