After the presidential inauguration, everyone's wondering what Trump's going to do in office. Here's some of things Trump wants to get done in his first 100 days in office:
1. Trade Deals
With outsourcing becoming a growing issue, Trump wants to pull the U.S out of NAFTA and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. He believes these trade deals have caused more harm than good to the U.S economy and working class. Multiple times, he has proposed the use of tariffs on companies that move overseas but want to continue selling their products in the U.S. This could potentially raise the cost of goods in the U.S and push countries to respond with their own tariffs, so many Republicans are pushing for a reward system that lowers tax rate on companies that stay in the U.S.
2. Energy
Though the U.S is trying to move towards cleaner energy sources, Trump has promised to lift restrictions on the production of "dirty" energy sources, such as coal and oil, which he believes will create "millions of high-paying jobs." He also wants to lift the blocks of energy projects that were stopped by the Obama administration such as the Keystone Pipeline and the Dakota Access Pipeline. For every new federal restriction, Trump wants to eliminate two already existing restrictions. Environmentalists, as well as fossil fuel producers, believe that Trump will relax many of the restrictions on fossil fuel energy production
3. Environment
Trump is known to not be a firm believer in climate change, going so far to calling it a hoax. His plans for climate change, which has recently been decreed as a matter of national security by the Obama administration, is to stop payments to the U.N climate change programs. He also has said multiple times that he wants to pull the U.S out of the newly signed Paris global climate change agreement and start dismantling regulations on factories releasing carbon dioxide. His nominee for the Department of Energy is Rick Perry, former governor of Texas, who used to want to abolish the Energy Department, but now expresses regret over his past beliefs.
4. Obamacare
Trump has promised to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act, an issue that has been high on the Republican agenda. He has also promised to repeal every unconstitutional action issued by Obama. Repealing the Healthcare Act may become harder than he thinks, especially with no known plan for now to replace it with. Republicans are working very carefully in trying to repeal Obamacare, not wanting to take away healthcare from the people who already have it and trying to keep the prices from suddenly spiking.
5. Immigration
With immigration being one of the most hotly debated issues this presidential election, Trump is still planning on building a wall on the Mexican border and making Mexico reimburse the U.S for the cost. He also wants to stop providing federal funding to sanctuary cities and remove over two million criminal illegal immigrants. He has also pledged to eliminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, signed by Obama. Trump has also expressed that he wants to suspend immigration from terror-prone regions.
Whether you agree with Trump's plans or not, we should all hope for the best in the next four years. Stay informed and stay involved!
