The power forward position is one of the two big man positions in the league next to the center position. These are the two positions that help lock down the paint so the opposing team does not score in the paint. Expect the power forward to rebound, defend the paint, score and defend in the post, and also draw double teams in the paint so they can kick it out to an open player. Before I start this article, I want to pay respect to the best power forward of all time in my opinion, Tim Duncan. He just recently retired from the game and made a major impact in the game of basketball. I just wanted to say thank you to Tim Duncan for his time in the NBA. It was fun and an honor getting to see one of the greats play and I have no doubt in my mind that he will be a hall of famer. I really hope he enjoys his retirement! Time to start the list with number five, Paul Millsap!
5. Paul Millsap (Al Horford and Jeff Teague isn't coming back? Maybe I should go to.)
Starting the list is Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap. Do-It-All Paul had a historic 2015-16 campaign. The 31-year-old became the first player in NBA history to surpass 250 assists, 125 blocks, 125 steals, 700 rebounds, and 50 three-pointers in the same season. He was the only player who ranked in the top 10 in both steals and blocks. He also made a third consecutive All-Star appearance. He also had career highs in rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks per game. Last season he averaged 17.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, and shot 47% from the field. In the playoffs, in one game, he had a playoff career high of 45 points which is third in Hawks playoff history. In the playoffs, he averaged 16.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, and shot 43.1% from the field. He is now the Hawks go-to player as he looks to prove himself as one of the league's best two-way players.
4. Blake Griffin (Kevin Durant signed with the Warriors?!?!?!)
At number four is Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin. One of the best dunkers in the NBA had a troubled season last year. He had a quad tendon injury that kept him out for most of the season. He also injured his hand after getting into an altercation with a Clippers equipment manager. In the first round of the playoffs, he injured his quad tendon again and was out for the rest of the playoffs, along with Chris Paul as the Clippers lost to the Trailblazers. Last regular season, he played only 35 games he averaged 21.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and shot 49.9% from the field. In the playoffs, where he only played four games, he averaged 15 points, 8.8 rebounds, and shot 37.3% from the field. Blake will look to rebound (pun intended) from a bad season to try to help the Clippers finally make it pass the second round.
3. LaMarcus Aldridge ( When you realized Tim Duncan just retired.)
At number three is the man who will be Tim Duncan's replacement at power forward, LaMarcus Aldridge. Last season was his first season with the Spurs as he left the team that drafted him, the Portland Trailblazers. He will be a great replacement for Tim Duncan as the Spurs move on to a new era that's focused on a new big three of Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge, and newly acquired center Pau Gasol. In the regular season, he averaged 18 points, 8.5 rebounds, and shot 51.3 percent from the field. In the playoffs, where he had some amazing games against the Thunder, he averaged 21.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and shot 52.1 precent from the field. Eyes will be on Aldridge and the Spurs this season as fans will watch to see how the Spurs season without Tim Duncan will go. I believe that the Spurs will be the a top three team in the west and make Tim Duncan proud.
2. Draymond Green (Draymond Green adds that extra kick to the Warriors offense and defense.)
At number two is the nutcracker himself Draymond Green. He has had a very troublesome off season with the law and social media. He is currently with Team USA at the Rio Olympics looking to get USA another gold medal in men's basketball. He is another player on this list that can do almost everything on the court. In the regular season where the Warriors went 73-9 he was close to averaging a triple double by averaging 14 points, 9.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and shot 49 percent from the field. In the playoffs he averaged 15.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 6 assists, and shot 43.1 percent from the field. With Kevin Durant leaving the Thunder to join the rival Warriors team Draymond and the rest of the Warriors will look to rebound from a NBA finals game seven lost to the Cavaliers. They could have became the best team in NBA history but couldn't get the job done in the finals. Draymond is very excited to kick off the start of the season as the Warriors look for redemption.
1. Anthony Davis (Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon went where?!?!?!?!)
At number one is the unibrow, Anthony Davis. After leading the Pelicans to the playoffs two seasons ago, last season was a disappointment as they missed the playoffs and Anthony Davis got injured and couldn't finish the season. He played a total of 61 games this season where he averaged 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and shot 49.3% from the field. In the off-season, the Pelicans lost Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon, but in the draft they added scoring sensation Buddy Hield from Oklahoma. The Pelicans will look to rebound from a disappointing season as they battle in a tough western conference ran by the Golden State Warriors who now play the villain.
There are my top five power forwards entering the season! This upcoming season will be exciting with the rookies looking to prove themselves and the new players who signed to new places seeking to make their mark on the NBA.
