Top 10 Must See Musicals
Broadway

I was bitten by the musical theatre bug in my early high school years and I cannot be grateful enough. I have seen and appreciated many performances that have left me speechless, in tears or smiling from ear to ear. So many times I will leave the theatre having the sudden urge to text all my friends and beg them to come see the show. It is truly an amazing experience going to the theatre and seeing such a magnificent art being performed.

And so, to spare you from having to wonder and research what show to consider seeing, here is a list of my top 10 favorite must see musicals:

1. The Phantom of the Opera

If you are looking for a classic, well-known Broadway show, then this is the one to see. Phantom is the longest running show on Broadway and rightfully so. The production has a phenomenal score and set, creating a beautiful and enchanting performance. With its popularity, it is definitely a show that you must see if you get the chance.

2. Wicked

Wicked is quite the popular pick and for a good reason. It tells the untold story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz. The show is filled with stand-out songs and is overall very visually stunning. It is definitely a fan favorite, me being one of them. It is the show I have seen the most out of all of the ones on this list. If that isn't proof enough that it is worth it, then I don't know what is!

3. The Fantasticks

This Off-Broadway show is a much smaller production than the previous two. The show has a very simple set and has a pianist rather than an orchestra. The show itself is full of comedy and romance and its music is the perfect amount of uniqueness to accompany the performance. This show is one of my all time favorite shows and definitely worth seeing.

4. Hedwig and the Angry Inch

This is also an Off-Broadway show, but vastly contrasts the previous one. What makes this show so unique is the way it is performed. Rather than seeing a traditional structured show with a large ensemble, Hedwig takes on the structure of a cabaret. While there are few other characters in the show, it primarily involves the main character, Hedwig, interacting and communicating with the audience. The lead role also plays more than one character throughout the show rather than having other actors. It is full of rock music and wild performances that are truly entertaining. It is a show for a much older audience though, so leave the little ones at home for this one.

5. West Side Story

This is also a great classic to see. The choreography in this show is incredible and I could honestly watch it for days. The story is inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet that takes place in New York City in the mid 1950's. This classic love story is filled with catchy tunes and tension filled scenes that will constantly keep you entertained.

6. Spring Awakening

This musical's theme and story line is heavier than the previous ones, but is nonetheless extremely worth seeing. I personally believe that it has one of the best soundtracks out there, being a rock musical. It is a story about sexual discovery among teenagers, so it is much more suited for a mature audience. Overall, it is a very emotional production with many powerful scenes that you won't forget.

7. Chicago

Chicago is the second longest running Broadway show behind Phantom and holds the record for the longest running musical revival of a Broadway show. The show revolves around the stories about criminals, based off the actual reports of Maurine Dallas Watkins, the playwright of the original play of the same title. Filled with many lovable and playful songs, you are bound to enjoy the show without a dull moment.

8. Pippin

This show has got to be one of the most exciting ones out there. It is filled with incredible stunts, choreography and outstanding songs. It is the perfect mix of comedy, action and love, with a twist ending. It is truly a jaw dropping show and one that you will want to see more than once.

9. Hello, Dolly!

If you want a show that will make you smile even after you've seen it, the Hello, Dolly! is the one. This show is all good times and sunshine, filled with fun and bright music that will have you tapping your feet and humming the tunes even after you've left the theatre. This is a comedic musical with a theme revolving around love. It is the perfect show for anyone no matter what age.

10. Hamilton

It is impossible for me to not put this show on the list. Hamilton has made history in its influence on today's culture and society. It won a total of 11 Tony awards, and has been greatly praised by some of the most famous figures in our society. It is one of the biggest steps forward in cultural entertainment, and has inspired many young actors and actresses. Not to mention its soundtrack is one that you won't be able to stop listening to once you hear it. This show is one that everyone needs to see not only for its quality performance, but because of the impact it has made.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
