Sometimes we have those weeks that make us feel so defeated, but the week of Valentine's Day tends to amplify it for some people. Their day might be full of tears and tissues, overdosing on chocolate, and pining for some kind of love from a man--literally any man, for even a brief, fleeting moment. As time consuming as pity parties can be (trust me--been there, done that...okay, still doing that), I have something well worth your time and energy (more so than crying over boys). Chick flicks, let's be honest, have a strange way of helping when you need your life to be better. I present to you the Top 10 (in my opinion) Chick Flicks To Watch (this V-day season or any day at all):
10. My Best Friend's Wedding
Many millennials may not have seen this one, which is truly unfortunate. When Julia Roberts' character sees her first love is engaged to a very young, very rich, and very blonde woman, her jealousy tales her on an epic chase of making him fall in love with her again.
9. 27 Dresses
Katherine Heigl's character has been a bridesmaid 27 times, but has never been a bride. Along comes James Marsden (such a cutie), who shakes things up when he writes an article about the infamous bridesmaid. Things get messy (don't they always?), but I don't want to give anything away. Just please appreciate the bar scene--it's one of my favorites.
8. The Princess Diaries
By far one of the cutest movies with one of the best messages: best yourself and don't ever change for anyone--not even for the super hot guy who suddenly wants to date you now that you're a princess. Go for the guys that see you when you're invisible. Thank you, Princess Mia, for teaching me this.
7. 10 Things I Hate About You
Bad boy Heath Ledger will steal your heart. Feminist Julia Stiles is the type of badass we all wish we could be. Make sure you fully appreciate the moment she reads her speech to the class. The. best. scene. ever.
6. The Holiday
Two very different women with two very different lifestyles switch homes for vacation and end up finding love in the most unexpected places with the most unexpected men. But, of course, it doesn't happen quite that gracefully.
5. 13 Going On 30
All Jenna wants to be is thirty, flirty and thriving...until one day she wakes up to a naked man in her shower and a badass magazine job with a backstabbing best friend who used to be her worst enemy. By fate, she reunites with Matty, her best friend when she was 13, and obviously her true love.
4. Sweet Home Alabama
One of my all-time favorite movies. Don't you just wish you could be Reese Witherspoon? Her character moved to New York to reinvent herself, got engaged to Patrick Dempsey, then had to take a trip down to her hometown in Alabama to officially divorce her husband (*gasp*).
3. Dirty Dancing
I grew up watching this movie, which definitely isn't normal. Patrick Swayze was one of my first crushes, how could he not be after watching this?! I don't want to give away anything about this movie, just watch it. Over and over and over again. And, remember: nobody puts Baby in the corner. Also, remember: being able to dance is like, super hot.
2. The Proposal
The perfect combination of cute and funny; this movie is a prime example of why romantic comedy's are the best. Margaret, a super powerful publisher, discovers she will be deported if she does not get married, so she threatens and blackmails her assistant into marrying her. This takes them on a trip to visit his family...in Alaska.
1. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
My absolute favorite chick flick of all time. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are fantastic in this movie, which will surely make you laugh and completely steal your heart. She works for a magazine where she has to start dating a guy and drive him away in 10 days, and he works for an advertising company, where he has to make a woman fall in love with him within ten days in order to win a bet.
