A Letter To My Best Friend

Why do you have to leave me?

A Letter To My Best Friend
The odyssey

Dear Twink,

Why in the world would you leave me? I know you have to be a big girl since your graduating, but it's going to super suck not having you here. It's not like we have been friends since we were two years old or anything, but we did become friends very quickly. Yes, you were in my pledge class but we didn't really hang out with the same crowd back then. The first time we hung out I was pretty sure you were stuck up and I was worried you would hate me. It was by far the most random day, but since then I've had a best friend. That summer and fall semester we were inseparable. I go through best friend phases, I assume because people get tired of me. But with you, it is different! Even though you are leaving me to go 15 hours away, you will always be my best friend.

Since that first day at the pool I've known you were meant to be my other half. I swear there couldn't be two people more alike and perfectly different than us. You are a princess, I am a b****. You are the Lime to my Tequila. I will always want to Late night patio drink with you. You are my person. You are my twink. You are the one I will vent to about my whole life, I will be there to listen when you need to rant about yours. I have never had someone move away, but I'm not excited about it. I've already started planning out my trips to see you. Future me is already broke from plane tickets or gas prices.

I want to thank you for coming into my life when you did. You are an absolute Godsend. I don't know where I would be in life without you. We had some crazy fun times! Remember the first TKE party we went to? You cut your hand wide open on a wine bottle, I learned that I'm pretty good with a first aid kit, and you left with quite the dramatic exit when one of them was too interested in you. The best memories are from tennis, we were college athletes for one whole semester! Waking up early, watching Mickey Mouse (every morning!), cooking breakfast for you and the couch guest, all before 6 a.m. practice. You have been there for all my life decisions the past four years. I had a baby, every other friend dropped me pretty quick. You never left. I got married and had to throw together a wedding in two months, and who was my stress control aka maid of honor? My best friend. You have been there through everything. Sometimes we would go a month or two without talking because I have a kid and you are a college student. But, that's okay because nothing changes, you are my best friend!

This past year has been the best of my life. I started school again and you were the first person I told. You were supportive and I loved you for that because not many others were. This past year I know has been a wild ride for you. It's your last semester of college, your boyfriend is off training for the Navy, you have a big girl job, and two dogs to take care of. But you still make time for me! When I need a girls night you are always the first one I call. Who am I kidding? You're the only one I call! You are okay with making margaritas on the back porch because I can't go out. You will go eat with me at restaurants with my crazy child. You have made my life change for the better. I love you. You are everything I need in a best friend and I am so grateful for that first random day at the pool . I am so so very sad that you are leaving me. I will miss you more than you'll ever know, but I will make a point to see you as much as I can!

Love,

Twinkle!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
