To My First College Best Friend

Here's to figuring out college together.

College is tough. Fun, but tough. Nobody can really prepare you for getting lost trying to find the gym, or how terrible 8 am's actually are, but I wouldn't have wanted to figure it all out with anyone else! Every long night at the library seems better spent when we can take a break to laugh about something stupid we saw on twitter. Through all of the really bad food days at the dining hall, I'm so thankful I had someone to run back to the dorm and binge on snacks and microwave mac n cheese with.

And I won't even begin to talk about how much fun gamedays, frat parties, and taking weekend roadtrips have been with you! Explaining all of our good times, inside jokes, and stupid mistakes turned funny stories would just take too long. What I really want to say is thank you. Thank you for learning how to 'college' with me. Thanks for forcing me to study for just a little longer, or telling me to take a break when you know I really needed it. Thanks for being my gym buddy, my go to food date, the person who's always down to rap old songs at the top of our lungs, and my first real college best friend.

We've seen each other through the stressful times, when our workload and our exam schedule just won't seem to give us a break. Through all the hilarious, weird moments that seem to happen quite a bit (I'm not complaining though). We've seen each other through all the college 'firsts' - exams, sorority functions, accidentally sleeping through class, learning to love microwaveable food, our first football game as a student, and so much more. Doing all of these things just wouldn't have been as enjoyable without you by my side. And that is why I know that you'll be around to do all of these firsts with me again for the very last time, four years from now.

XO, your first college roommate and best friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
