To Be A Buckeye

Being an Ohio State Buckeye means the world.

To Be A Buckeye

It’s been about a month since the semester at The Ohio State University ended.

Throughout the month of May, it’s been a time of reflecting on all of the memories, both good and bad, that I was able to experience during the spring semester. Although some of the memories combine laughter and happiness, others may be filled with more stress and the thought of deadlines. However, one thing soars above all: it means the world to be a Buckeye.

Ohio State is a vast, diverse community where it can seem intimidating at first to find your place. After completing my second year, I know that I have friends for life and that I have a reliable support system. Finding fellow Buckeyes to be the people I confided in, got late-night food with, and spent the most time with helps me realize that I have found my place within the large community at OSU.

Being a Buckeye is an honor because I am proud to share something so great with my friends and with so many other students.

When people ask where I go to school, I can proudly say that I am a student at Ohio State in Columbus, and they are often extremely happy for me. I am happy for all of the Buckeyes out there, past, current, and future. Having the opportunity to share something with thousands and thousands of people makes me feel connected; it makes me feel like I am never truly alone.

To be a Buckeye means that you’ll always have family. With the huge amount of alumni from OSU, you’ll be able to feel connected to the school you made your home even without actually being a student. As a current Ohio State student, I can say that being a Buckeye means that you’ll be inspired every day by the confidence, teamwork, and diversity that you see each day in and out of the classrooms.

No matter what school or college you go to, or went to, know that you are a part of a bigger family.

Throughout my experience, I know that I have several "families." I have my closest friends, my sorority sisters, those who share my major, and all of the other OSU Buckeyes that are in school and those who have finished their college career at Ohio State.

It’s only been about a month since I left Columbus, but I am eager to get back and see what the rest of my college experience has in store for me. I have confidence that OSU will allow me to excel and grow, and I am looking forward to the years to come. To be a Buckeye means finding a family, succeeding, cheering on the Bucks, listening to the marching band, embracing diversity, hanging out on the Oval, and being a part of a hardworking student body.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
