It's almost that time, again, when people go crazy with oversized stuffed animals, boxes upon boxes of chocolate are purchased, roses are suddenly the most important flower known to man, and Hallmark makes a killing off of sappy cards. Woohoo! Alert the press, it just might be Valentine's Day. If you have someone to share the holiday with, it can be a wonderful night full of romance and raging hormones. However, if you are single, it can be a day full of self-loathing, sadness, jealousy, and wishful thinking that someone could still show up out of nowhere and ask you to be their valentine.
However, it is time to sit back and face the facts: you might be single on Valentine's Day. Now, stop everything that you are thinking about. You know what I mean -- the negative thoughts need to go. It doesn't mean that you are unlikeable. It doesn't mean that you'll be forever alone. And it especially doesn't mean that something is wrong with you. Now that we've cleared that up, what can you do about it?
Being single on Valentine's Day doesn't mean that you can't have fun. You can have just as much fun as people who are out on a date! You just have to know what to do.
1. You can buy yourself a cupcake, or any other kind of sweet treat, because you don't need someone else to buy you something sweet.
2. You can take yourself out to dinner or order something in because you deserve to treat yourself.
3. Go see a movie that you wouldn't be able to get your friends or significant other to see with you.
4. Have a girl's night, or a guy's night. There is no secret law that says you have to be alone if you aren't on a date on Valentine's Day.
5. Watch a horrible movie and make fun of it.
6. Bake something.
7. Play a ridiculous game that will be sure to have you laughing on the floor. My vote is always on Cards Against Humanity.
8. Have an anti-Valentine's Day party. It worked in the movie Valentine's Day and everyone ended up having fun, so why not give it a chance?
9. Ask your gal-pal to be your valentine. Treat one another to manicures and lunch!
10. Toast to the happy relationship you have with yourself -- because you love yourself. It doesn't matter if it's champagne, a Shirley Temple, or sparkling grape juice.
11. Believe that you can have fun -- alone! You really can have a great time without a significant other.
12. Prepare yourself to go buy the clearance candy at Target the next day. Who needs to pay full price on candy?
Regardless of whether you have someone, or not, don't let the holiday get you down. You can have a great time if you allow yourself to have one!
Best of luck and have a great Valentine's Day!
