The Stages of Doing Laundry

The real life struggle of being responsible in college.

I find that college students lead very busy lives. Often times, when we get any free moments, we really want to spend them doing a whole lot of nothing. Sometimes, we have other responsibilities, like cleaning our rooms or washing our clothes that simply must be done. I go through stages of doing my laundry. I know I can't be the only one.

  1. It is day one. You have your life together and your clothes are clean and organized in your closet. You feel like you're ready to take on the world because your outfit options are endless. Life is full of possibility.
  2. You have worn every single pair of jeans you own at least once, except for that pair your really hate that you only pull out when you have absolutely no other options. Your favorite pair has been worn at least three times, if not more. You're just praying that no one has noticed yet.
  3. You've run out of socks and every other bare necessity. That favorite pair of jeans is even starting to gross you out and you can't possibly stuff a single thing else in your laundry basket if it's not already overflowing.
  4. You decide you can't do it anymore and you need to get your life together. You find time time to wash your clothes, so you haul all of your stuff down to the laundry room and all of the washers are taken. You should've seen this coming since everyone else also decided to wait until they had nothing left.
  5. You check every once in a while to see if a washer opens up and finally there is one single washer open. You start stuffing your clothes in only to realize that you literally cannot fit all of the dirty clothes into one machine.
  6. You reluctantly wait around until you can use two washers and as soon as two open up, you have to leave the room and will not have time to move them over in a timely fashion. To avoid fear of someone stealing your clothes or throwing them on the floor, you wait even longer.
  7. Then the moment finally arrives when there are washing machines open, and you have the time to wait on all of it. You throw your clothes in and wait until you can finish them.
  8. When the dryer is finished, you just throw your clothes on your bed and wait until the clothes eventually are going to need to be ironed in the future, but after you hang them up, all is right in the world and you are ready to conquer college.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
