The Songs That Got Me Through January
Cigarettes After Sex

It’s a rare occurrence to find me without headphones in. I am either listening to music or thinking about what my next download is going to be (thanks Apple Music). In honor of January coming to a close, here are some of the songs, in no particular order, that got me through the first month of 2017.

April's Daydream- Devonte Hynes

From the movie Palo Alto, starring James Franco and Emma Roberts. This is the song I find myself putting on late at night when I can’t sleep or on my early morning walk to my 8 AM.

Say You Won't Let Go- James Arthur

A song I first heard from a dance video on Instagram, and ever since I’ve been hooked.

Like A Rolling Stone- Bob Dylan

A classic. Enough said.

Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby- Cigarettes After Sex

The song that makes you look at the passenger side window of a car and imagine your life as a film.

All We Ever Knew- The Head and the Heart

I saw this live in December and it still has me hooked. A song I play when I need a pick me up after a rough day or when I need some inspiration.

Tiny Dancer- Elton John

This song will be a favorite every single month for the rest of my life. Nothing better than singing this one at the top of your lungs with your best friends driving down the freeway.

On Hold- The xx

The xx with yet another hit song.

Still Breathing- Green Day

Green Day will always be in my heart, and after seeing them live a few months ago I can die happily.

White Blank Page- Mumford & Sons

Mumford & Sons always tugs at my heart strings, and ever since this one came on my Pandora a few weeks ago it’s been playing nonstop.

That’s the Way- Led Zeppelin

Another classic, that will never get old.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
