Fall, everyone’s favorite time of year. Candy corn, pumpkins and seasonal drinks can be found at every corner, and #sweaterweather is in full effect. Although Fall is the time of year that you can be as festive as you want and get away with it, the reality of it all is slightly different. The hype for Fall is a real thing, but when it is finally here, the results aren’t always exactly how we planned.
Weather: Of course the crisp fall air is so refreshing and pure, and nothing beats taking a walk on a beautiful fall day, but how about when you weren’t at all prepared for the weather, and you end up freezing your butt off? It is easy to forget a sweater on a day that is said to be a low of 60 degrees, but ends up being in the 40’s. And don’t even get me started on cold feet; fuzzy socks are a must when the air gets a little chilly.
Candy: Walking through the Halloween candy aisle definitely puts me in the holiday mood, and stocking up on seasonal candy is a must when Halloween is approaching. But have you ever stopped to look at the prices? One big bag of mixed candy can sometimes go up to $20. There isn’t any way I’m spending $20 on a big bag of candy, when I can get like 4 burrito bowls for that price.
Laziness: When the air gets cooler, I get slower. All I want to do is curl up in a blanket, and watch Halloween movies all day long. My motivation for school work decreases by about 75%, and all that’s on my mind is what exactly my costume will look like for Halloween.
Scary Movie Sleeps: Scary movies and thrillers are definitely on everyone’s bucket list for the fall time, but what no one really talks about are the sleeps that come immediately after you have watched the movies. The frightening paranormal activities are still on your mind, and you can’t shake that creepy hallway image from your head. The blankets go directly over your head, to protect you from any evil spirits that may be lurking in your room. You try your hardest to think about something happy, but somehow it always goes back to the scary movie plot.
Sweaters: Sweater weather is the best time of year no doubt! Sweaters are flattering on all shapes and sizes, and they are so cozy and warm. But have you ever stopped to notice how expensive sweaters are? After a while, you have to contain yourself from buying any more, or you will literally be broke. So repeated wear of the same outfits is definitely in your future, because there are only so many things you can pair with one sweater! And let’s not forget how horrible it is when you come inside from a blistering cold day, only to find yourself sweating profusely because of your heavy sweater.
Candles: Fall candles are the best candles, and if you disagree, you’re wrong. But boy do those things go fast! You light the wicks one day, and the scent of maple-glazed donuts surrounds you, but then you stop to look, and notice the candle wax is literally nearing its death! Candles go fast and they definitely are not cheap.
Fall is amazing but sometimes there are realities of it all and not everything goes exactly as planned. Of course the fun part of it all is that we get to experience the beautiful scenery, the decadent smells, the joyful moments and the delicious food. I am so grateful that I get to enjoy a season like fall, even if my feet do get cold now and again.
