It's that time of year again. The time where everyone around you on campus is sick. For those of us living in dorms, in such close quarters, it becomes inevitable that you too will be sick soon enough. To help prevent catching that common cold or the stomach bug that is going around, here are some tips on how to stay healthy in college.
1. Exercise
It is so important to stay active but I understand the gym can be a bit intimidating at times, whether you are unsure how to use the equipment properly or are intimidated by the intense-looking weightlifters.
- Try a workout class
- Go to the gym with friends
- Take a walk for study breaks
- Use a fitness tracker (try to beat your daily high)
2. Food
In the dining hall:
- Always have a balanced, nutritious plate
- When ordering eggs or an omelette, ask for real eggs or egg whites
- Load up on veggies and greens before getting other food
- Olive oil mixed with balsamic vinegar is a great, healthy option for dressing
- Get simple grilled chicken for lunch/dinner- perfect source of protein
- Want dessert? Try some apples with peanut butter
- Bring containers to the dining hall to bring fresh veggies and fruit for snacks
- Trade coffee for tea
- Reduce sugar
- When you can, cook your own food
