Hey there,
You're one of the most amazing people I have ever met. You always look out for me to make sure I don’t do anything stupid. I don't know how I got lucky enough to call you my best friend, but I thank God every day for it.
I will never forget the first day of school freshman year. I just moved in and my roommate had a huge crush on your roommate. He asked me if I could go with him and talk him up (even though I met him 20 minutes before), but I said sure. We walked down the hall to talk to you guys and that was the best decision I could have made. You were incredibly sweet and we instantly started talking like we knew each other for years. From that day on, it was like talking to my sister away from home.
We started hanging out, arguing about New York or Scranton having better pizza (New York), getting Chinese food on Sundays, and watching football. You would watch the Cowboys while I watched the Steelers and complained about how our teams sucked. We would talk about all of our problems with school and practice. You tried explaining softball to me, which honestly still confuses me. I tried explaining diving but you got annoyed so I just said, “I do some flips, some twist, and there is my sport,” which worked for you. Every time I walked in, I would whistle and that started being the greeting call for us. You asked me all the time if your outfit was too slutty, or if you looked good and I told you the truth every time. You didn't always love my answer but you said thank you and knew it was because I cared. I’ll never forget when I ran a half a mile to your dorm this year at 2 a.m. because you said you were walking over. You started crying over a guy you liked since freshman year. I told you to let it go because he wasn't worth the tears and you smiled and fell asleep.
I know I don't thank you enough for being my best friend. Thank you for always having my back and telling me what I need to hear. Thank you for telling me when a girl is right or wrong for me and making sure I don't get hurt. You and I tell each other everything, including stuff that has way too much detail but I wouldn't trade our bond for anything.
Thank you for telling me how great I am even though I will never believe it. You have seen me at my darkest point, especially this past year and yet you stayed. I know that we may be 157 miles away from each other now, but I am always here for you. Thank you for the endless laughs and being there for me.
I love you,
The guy who always has your back
