Overthinking. It's one of the most emotionally and mentally draining concepts in the world. For all you who weren't born with the natural knack for "going with the flow" you know exactly what I mean. You cannot help constantly questioning and analyzing every question that you get asked or every comment that is made at you or every and any good or bad action that you see. You just can't win or run away from it, it's this constant chaotic ball of mayhem that just travel with you in the back of your mind that you so wish you can let go off but can't seem to shake off.
So.. you try to live with it, try to manage it. Maybe you'll tell yourself that you'll only call upon your extensive analytic skills when need be and maybe it works out but for most of us it doesn't. Then you are right back where you started. The same old routine. Sitting around out the end of the day pondering everything you did wondering if anyone noticed you trip earlier and now they must think you are a social outcast, or thinking that your boyfriend/girlfriend fell asleep without telling you goodnight last night because they lost interest and you guys are on the verge of breaking up.
The ironic thing is, we know the "shallow" answer to all of our over analyzed mental questions but our brains just cannot seem to let us keep it that simple. People may say to us that we look too deep into things but if we had the choice not to, I'm positive we would opt out of this annoyance. Overthinking can ruin so many things. It can ruin your self-confidence in a split second, ruin your relationships, waste your time, make you miss out on opportunities as well as experiences and most importantly mess up your mental state by driving you absolutely insane. Overthinking is just one overbearing battle no one can seem to win. Your mind just goes to a million different places at such lightning speed that you can't even seem to keep track and gather yourself.
As a result, we naturally give up and let it happen. We become our own worst enemy. It turns us into this dark individual because most things we overthink about are more than likely to have negative outcomes. The never ending cycle seems to continue. All we can do is hope that one day it calms down and that one day we can actually control our thoughts. That way we can go on peacefully and eventually adopt this anxiety-free "go with the flow" mentality.
