Sometimes being stuck in your own head sucks.

Plain and simple, I over analyze everything. Even writing this post I’m over analyzing it. One thing that I’ve come to know in my twenty three years of life is that over analyzing is something that creeps up on you. One moment you think you’re just looking at a photo and then twenty minutes later you are questioning why you even posted it to social media and why you wore that outfit out in public. Everyone over analyzes things at different times in their life, it is human nature. But for those who over analyze everything know right now that it sucks and is something we need to seriously work on stopping. If you like me here are ten things you know are true if you over analyze everything in your life.

1.You Cannot Just Read A Text.

Text messages are hard to read in general. Miss communications happen all the time via text message. But for someone who over analyzes, a simple “Hi” could send them into a spiral of questions. You don’t know what to say to people and what could have been an easy five minute conversation now became a fifteen minute conversation.

2.You Over Analyze Everything People Say to You.

Group conversations are the worst. Why did this person just say that and why so did and so just laugh like that? Did I say something wrong? Do I smell bad? I must have done something wrong. Quick find a reason to leave!

3.You Jump to the Worst Conclusion.

Jumping to the worst conclusions comes naturally to you. Oh you have a bad cough and feel weak? You are definitely dying. Didn’t study enough for that test that took you a while to finish? You failed and you’re going to fail out of school just because of that one test. No matter how un likely that worst conclusion would happen, you still think it will happen until the world proves you wrong.

4.You don’t sleep, you just lay in bed and think.

Trying to sleep is the worst. As hard as you try to fall sleep, you can’t because that memory of that one day back in middle school where you called your teacher mom still haunts you. You have to come up with all the reasons why you called her mom or what you could have done to get out of that situation.

5.Sending an Email Takes Forever.

Have to send out an email to your boss or professor? Better save twenty minutes into your schedule. You cannot just read and email and quickly respond. What if what you sound rude? Is the message professional sounding enough? Should you explain in full detail why you are going to be late? How should you sign it? Better yet send it to your coworker/ classmate to have them read it to see if it sounds okay.

6.You cannot take a complement.

You cannot take a complement to save your life. What if someone was really just trying to be mean to you? Someone said they like your hair? Oh crap it must look really bad. If someone does give you a complement and you take it, later when you are trying to sleep you’ll over analyze what that complement really could have meant.

7.Having a Crush on Someone is the absolute worst.

Having a crush on someone just makes all your problems ten times worse. Lucky enough to make it through a face to face conversation where they gave you their number, that’s awesome! But you know you are never going to be able to text or call them. They looked at your snapchat story? What does that mean? It has to mean something. They waved to you on the way to class? Whoop looks like you will not be focused on the class topic now. It’s like the world knows how to torture you when you have a crush, you never get a break, you over analyze every single thing in your life.

8.You can’t pick where to eat.

If someone asks you to pick where to eat it takes you forever to pick a place. You have to think about what the other people might want to eat. What if they don’t like what you pick? What are the options of food the restaurant might have? Actually make it to the restaurant. There goes another hour of analyzing. What if that choice doesn’t fill you? What if it doesn’t taste as good as you remember? Picking food it almost as bad as having to write an email.

9.Coincidence? No everything happens for a reason.

Some say coincidences happen all the time for some reason, but those reasons register in your mind as something meaningful that will keep you up at night. There has to be some logical reason why it happens. You spend hours on end interpreting what the meaning behind them can be.

10.You cannot live in the moment.

At a really cool event? Awesome. But you know you cannot live in the moment and fully enjoy it. You have to think of reasons why something might be happening. Why is that person doing that? Are they allowed to do that? This event will be in your constant thoughts for the next week. You will analyze every single detail, even down to the way that the chairs are set up. As hard as you try to live in the moment, you know that is something you cannot do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
