We all know what a sunset looks like. Countless times we have seen the sky turn into several shades of pinks, yellows, and oranges as the day comes to an end. The sun is overcome by the bright, white moon, and then the dark sky filled with stars graces it’s presence as night time begins. I am sure everyone has seen this happen before their eyes multiple times, especially on those gorgeous summer days. Most probably they have a picture of the most beautiful sunset they have ever seen on their phone. It is amazing to think what amazing natural beauty this planet shows us every day. But what about the sun rises?

Waking up at the same time the earth begins to come alive can be very rewarding. I love sleeping in as much as the next person, but sometimes when there is a lot that needs to be done in a day, waking up early and starting your day when the earth wakes up, is the best option. Occasionally I have to go to work early in the morning. While at first it is a struggle to bring myself to get out of bed at that early hour, once I get outside and I see the orange sun slowly spread its sunshine across the sky and hear the birds begin their chorus of chirping, I can’t help but feel as if I had the absolute best start to my day.

Then as the morning continues and the sun starts shining at full blast and even more animals wake up, I realize just how productive I have been. Besides getting to see the sunrise and the beauty of nature at such an early hour, there is also the benefit of being productive with your day. Using your time wisely can result in getting your tasks of the day done in plenty of time to give yourself time to relax, or do something you enjoy with the rest of the day. Other than being productive with your day, there are other health benefits to waking up early.

forbes.com did their own research on discovering the benefits of waking up early. They pulled information from several studies such as ones done at Harvard University in 2008. After doing some research, Forbes concluded that there are 10 benefits of waking up early. One of them was what I had already mentioned before in being more productive and proactive. In regards to education, it was found that students that considered themselves “early risers” had better GPA's and used their morning to think of the long-term goals they wanted in life. Applying to those who have a career as well, waking up early gives people the opportunity to plan out their days and weeks ahead, therefore making them a little more organized and on top of their work. Other benefits include the morning being a better time to exercise, sleeping better (if one goes to bed early), better anticipation of problems, more optimism, better commutes to work or school, and having some quiet time to yourself.

So while sleeping in is great occasionally, it could benefit your way of living greatly if you make an effort to wake up early some days. On my busiest days, I feel as if there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. But when I wake up early, I certainly feel as if I have a much greater chance of getting everything done that I need to while still having time to myself. The research was done and recorded by "Forbes Magazine" show only the top ten benefits of waking up early, but in becoming more of an early riser yourself, you may be able to find many more. Be able to say you have seen the most beautiful sunrises as much as have you have seen those amazing sunsets.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
