The ABC'S Of Villanova University

A- ACS

The infamous Augustinian Culture Seminar is something that every freshman gets to experience for not one, but two fun filled semesters wooo! The course focuses on the question "Who Am I" and works to create well rounded individuals. It is taught by a variety of professors from different departments and can be a total drag but fear not, you will survive!

B- Basketball

Basketball is not just a sport at Villanova, it is a religion. When people hear that you attend Villanova University, the first question that they always ask is "how's the team looking this season?" Watch out Big East, we're coming for you this year!

C- The Courts

The Courts are probably the grimiest place on campus but I guarantee, you will party there. It is the place to be on the weekends, especially freshman year. Most fraternities occupy an apartment or two there because frat boys are the only people willing to live in the filth.

D- Darrun Hilliard

Darrun Hilliard, class of 2015, was one of the stars of our basketball team. He led the team to win the Big East conference last year and also to win the first game of March Madness. Darrun currently plays for the Detroit Pistons!

E- East Lancaster Avenue

Lancaster Ave, aka the Main Line, is probably the most annoying and congested road you've ever driven on. No matter the time of day there is ALWAYS bumper to bumper traffic. It is also the worst street to cross but its the place that we call home nine months out of the year.

F- Father Peter Donahue

Father Peter is our beloved University president. He's one of the campus celebrities and people love love love to take selfies with him. A bucket list item for many graduating students is to get a photo with Father Peter! He's one of the friendliest guys around and is always wearing a big smile.

G- Greek Life

Although Villanova is not a big state school, we do have Greek Life. We currently have nine fraternities and nine sororities. Greek Life at Nova is as big as you make it and you will always find philanthropy events going on around campus!

H- Hoops Mania

There is no better way to kick off our tremendous basketball seasons than with a pep rally featuring one of the hottest rappers in the country. Past performers have included Drake, Nikki Minaj, Big Sean!

I- Ignite Change, Go Nova

No one is exactly sure what this slogan means or why exactly it was chosen, but Villanova has done an excellent job of plastering it on about 90% of campus. You will find it on posters, flyers, and information packets sent home to students.

J- Jay Wright

Another Nova campus celebrity, Jay Wright, is the head coach of the men's basketball team. He is worshiped by the Nova Nation and has shaped an amazing team. When he's not on the court, you can find him on a Dove commercial.

K- Kelly's

Kelly's Taproom is a popular bar among Villanova students. It's located right on the Main Line in Bryn Mawr and you'll always see a familiar face out and about.

L- (Awkward) Luau & Orientation

The Awkward Luau is a right of passage at Villanova. On the first night of orientation all of the freshman go to main campus where there is a big luau and trust me it is not that awkward. Most conversations only go as far as your name and where you are from. Also, Villanova orientation is the best in the world.

M- Maloney's

Maloney's Pub is another popular Main Line bar that Villanova students frequent. Chances are you will spend most of your weekends bar-hopping between here and Kelly's, once you are of age.

N- Nova Nation

The Nova Nation is one of the strongest fan bases in the country. Nationers aka Villanova students are die hard Nova fans and support the Wildcats through it all. On any given game day, the student section of the Pavilion is overflowing with Nationers who are all decked out in navy and white.

O- The Oreo

The Oreo is a sculpture sitting in the middle of campus truly looks like an Oreo. It is one of the iconic images of Villanova just like Bartley Hall or the St. Thomas of Villanova Church. Its also a popular place for students to hang out on a sunny day.

P- Public Safety

Public safety has been the subject of much controversy recently due to the decision to arm a number of officers. Normally they are just like big brother, watching when we sneak back into our dorms, looking to rat us out to mom and dad. But in all seriousness, they keep our campus a safe and orderly community.

Q- The Quad

The quad is the hands down best place to live on campus. The central location is luxurious and provides you with the ability to roll out of bed at 8:25 for your dreaded 8:30 classes. Definitely the highlight of sophomore year.

R- Rosie's and Holy Grounds

Any self respecting person would choose Starbucks or Dunkin or homemade coffee over Rosie's or Holy Grounds...but its the only coffee on campus. It is definitely way too strong but I guess its not totally awful. They do have really good tea and muffins!

S- The Spit

There is a reason that people gain the freshman fifteen. Freshman are blessed to have the Spit. Its the best dining hall on campus and is the hot spot for Greek Life dinners once a week.

T- Tolentine Hall

There is absolutely nothing worse than having a class in Tolentine. Okay maybe the only thing worse is having to trek all the way up to the fourth floor.

U- Unitas, Veritas & Caritas

Community, truth and love. These are three Augustinian pillars located on Villanova's seal. The latin words are embodied across campus every day.

V- VU Mobile

VU Mobile is the cause of 99% of my daily stress. Whether the internet crashes while I'm trying to finish a huge paper or trying to finish an episode of Netflix, it is a big annoyance.

W- Wil D. Cat

Our beloved mascot and leader of the Wildcats spreads pride across campus. He pumps up the crowd for every game and embodies the sense of community at Villanova.

X- The (e)Xchange

The eXchange has the best food on campus without a doubt and it is always packed. Its like a camping ground for Greek Life. You'll usually find a table from each fraternity and sorority.

Y- Yik Yak

Yik Yak is basically a Twitter for a specific college. Villanova's is pretty boring and uneventful but let's be real...Y is a hard letter and my creativity does have a limit.

Z- Zilly Fries

Zilly fries are everybody's favorite 2 AM drunk food. Camp Co is also an institution at Villanova. I mean, Harry Styles even ate there once!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
