The 7 Stages Of Going To The Gym

The struggle is real.

1. Preparation

You are lying in your bed on your second hour of Netflix when your friend texts you asking if you want to finally go to the gym. Summer is approaching and you two already have trips to the beach planned. You decide it’s time to get up and do this. You pick out your cutest gym outfit and sneakers. As you’re changing, you start to get excited and think about how you’re going to do this every day to look great. You get yourself motivated and excited for your first workout in three months. You grab your water bottle headphones and hop in your friend’s car. You’re ready for this!

2. The Drive To The Gym

Your friend has her “get pumped” playlist on. You’re both jamming out as you drive to the gym. You’re so ready to work out! It’s been a while and you know today is the day you will get back in the routine of going to the gym every day. When you pull into the parking lot, you look through the window and see people working out. You both are wondering if you should just turn back now. You talk about how you hate working out and how hungry you suddenly are. However, you remind each other that summer is coming and you need to burn off that pizza you ate yesterday. You finally accept the fact that this might suck, but you have to do it.

3. Starting You Workout

You start on the treadmill to get your heart pumping. You start to jog and think, “Wow, I’m doing so great! I can run for an hour!” You push yourself harder and run a little faster. You got this! … Until you are 30 seconds into your run, and you think you're dying. Is this really worth it? You can barely breathe, and you don’t remember running being this hard. But you look at your friend struggling with you and decide to run for at least 10 minutes. You push through the workout and stand on the treadmill trying to catch your breath. The worst part is over!

4. Trying New Things

Now you decide to try those machines you haven’t used in three months. You wander around the gym and decide to start with the leg machines. These aren’t so bad; you know how to do these! You do a few sets on those and then decide to try something new and challenging. You go over to a machine and try to figure it out. How does this even work? After an embarrassing five minutes of fidgeting with it, you finally learn how to use this machine. You do a few of these to make it look like you know what you’re doing, and then you go back to the two machines you know how to use.

5. Finishing Your Workout

After 20 minutes at the gym, you realize that you have actually been on snapchat for half of the time here. You put your phone down and do some hard-core exercising. You and your gym buddy coordinate your workout and do 20 minutes of leg and butt exercises. Finally, you decide to wrap it up. You check yourself out in the mirror before you leave, and promise each other that you will come back tomorrow with a killer ab routine. You get in the car and grab a healthy lunch while you shop online for a new Nike outfit. After lunch, you go home and plan a workout for the gym tomorrow. You’ll have your beach body in no time.

6. The Next Day

You wake up and you can barely move. You try to get out of bed but your legs feel like jello. You text your friend asking how she feels, and she can barely move either. You both decide to skip the gym today to recuperate …

7. Regret

A few weeks later, it’s summer break and you’re heading to the beach, wishing you went back to the gym that day. You promise you'll start working out again soon, but for now, you sit on the beach and enjoy the weather as you complain about how life just isn't fair.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
