Having a boyfriend is great, usually. Even in college, when you're surrounded by people who swear they'll be single for life, or that no boyfriend is best, a boyfriend may be just what you need.
When you get a boyfriend, there's a certain etiquette that must be followed. For all you people who haven't had a relationship in a long time you may be a little rusty on the rules, so I'll help refresh your memory. These are the 11 unspoken do's and don'ts of having a boyfriend.
1. Announcing the relationship
Do: Change your relationship status on Facebook and text closest friends.
Don't: Post about it on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and text everyone in your contacts for a week straight.
2. Pictures
Do: Post a picture of you two every once in a while.
Don't: Only post pictures of you two.
3. Social Media
Do: Continue your normal social media regiment.
Don't: Only post about him tag him and everything, and no longer post about anything else.
4. PDA
Do: Hold hands, occasional kiss on the cheek or lips, throw in a casual hug or high five.
Don't: Have a 30 minute make-out session in the middle of the library, or any public place.
5. Daily conversations
Do: Talk about a variety of topics, with your new boyfriend coming up occasionally.
Don't: Only talk about him, things that happened with him, or things you have planned.
6. Seeing him
Do: See him and hang out with him, as well as other people.
Don't: Only see him and only hang out with him.
7. Not seeing him
Do: Deal with it like the independent person you are.
Don't: Complain about not seeing him for a week when you began dating, especially to someone in a long distance relationship.
8. Venting
Do: Open up to friends about issues in the relationship.
Don't: Vent about minimal issues as another excuse to talk about him.
9. Your personality
Do: Stay the same person you were before you got a boyfriend.
Don't: Change who you are, what you care about and what you enjoy, because of your boyfriend.
10. Friends who don't like your boyfriend
Do: Try to work things out, hang out all together, and make the best of the situation.
Don't: Choose your boyfriend over your friends, especially if they're one of your closest friends.
11. Being in the relationship
Do: Enjoy it, a relationship should be fun.
Don't: Hate it, if you do, you shouldn't be in one.
