The bittersweet break we get away from college. The smell of turkey in the oven and homemade stuffing being made filling our nostrils. This is what we have been waiting 364 days for. Christmas is around the corner and I can't wait to get my hands on my mom's potato buns.
Not only is Christmas a great holiday to eat some amazing food and opening presents, but it's a way to remind ourselves that we need to be grateful for what we have. No matter what your circumstance is, there is always something to be thankful for. When I first moved to the US, my parents gave each of their children a pad of Post-It notes. They told us to write on each note something that we were thankful for and place them all over the living room walls. The other rule was that we also had to use the whole entire pad of them. At the end, some of the notes became somewhat ridiculous, but it still taught us a lesson. We had a lot to be thankful for.
Here is Christmas told in GIFs. I find them COMPLETELY relatable, but I don't know, maybe it's because I wrote this article.
When you get to leave for vacation and don't have to think about school
Not having the stress of thinking about upcoming assignments is wonderful, am I right?
You get to see your pets that you have been missing
Not going to lie, I have made my parents send pictures of my dogs everyday for the past couple weeks because I miss them.
And I guess your family and friends too
Some of my family I haven't seen since I left for college Thanksgiving break. It's been a while. And don't get me started on my friends. I haven't seen them in ages.
You get to tell your parents about all the stuff you've learned
The semester is over, so I'm basically a genius for all the classes I've taken so far.
Opening presents on Christmas morning:
Let's be real. This is the best part of Christmas. Giving and receiving gifts are the highlight of the Christmas season for me.
Christmas dinner!!!
I've talked about food way too much in this article already, but how good is food, seriously!
During Christmas dinner, your family asks you about everything. And you know what I need:
Are you interested in any boys? How are your friends? How are your classes? Did you make good grades this semester? Why did you choose to go to Iowa State? How do you like your major/classes? NO. I don't want to talk about it.
The aftermath: gigantic food baby
Ah, the glorious food baby. It's time to go rest on the couch and take a nap. How can I be comfortable and uncomfortable at the same time?
Starting the last minute Christmas shopping!
Enough said.
And finally, the anxiety about leaving home for school again
Oh, I can't wait to be back at college. with new classes. and making new friends. and lots of responsibilities I don't want to face.
