As of May 8th, I have celebrated the 19th Mother’s Days with the women who gave birth to me and I couldn’t be more fortunate to call her mine. Personally, my mother is my best friend, the person I talk to when I feel like my world is falling apart (which happens a lot), and my biggest supporter. She’s stood by my side no matter how many times I’ve tried to be independent, she’s constantly stepped in when my bigger sisters were picking on me, and she’s sat through hours of my golf tournaments never complaining about the weather or the time.
That’s why it’s such a shame that mother’s are only appreciated one day a year. If every other mother in the world does just as much as mine does for me, then they go through a large amount of trouble with little in return. I know that my sisters and I have put my mom through the ringer but not once has she ever given up on us. I know that sometimes us kids aren’t the most appreciative that we could be, but we just want to thank you for everything that you’ve ever done for us. Which is why I’ve decided to go ahead and thank you, and every other mother out there, for all that you do, especially the little things.
1. Thank you for the late night phone calls
I know that every time I need someone to call, I can call you. No matter the time or hour, you answer faithfully. I know sometimes it must get frustrating listening to my drama or random meltdowns, but I don’t think that I would be able to get through this past year if it wasn’t for being able to talk to you.
2. Thank you for cleaning up my messes
Everyone that knows me also knows that my life is completely disorganized and a disaster, but you have helped me clean up every single one of them. Whether it’s physical or emotional, you’re always two steps behind me trying to keep the damage to a minimal with only minimal complaining.
3. Thank you for being honest
My mother has never been the one to be dishonest. She’s always been upfront and what you see is what you get, and I think that is the biggest blessing in a mother. You have shown me to never be afraid or unabashed about who I am, instead you taught me to take the world by the horns and say here I am. Your fearlessness and honesty has taught me that sometimes people won’t like you, but you just have to keep on going anyways. This is the best quality about me.
4. Thank you for staying
I mean this in more ways than one. I mean thank you for staying home while I was in school even though you had the ability to do anything you’ve ever wanted. I mean thank you for staying by my side no matter how bratty or rude or rebellious I was. I mean thank you for staying energetic and active to keep up with my constant running and dancing. I mean thank you for staying on my side, defending me from my sisters and just about anyone else that did me wrong.
5. Thank you for teaching me how to be an adult
As I say all the time, I’m not ready to be 19 years old, much less an adult. However, mom you’ve always patiently answered my questions. You’ve never gotten annoyed when I didn’t know how to make a doctors appointment or work some odd machine around the house. You’ve never laughed when I had a meltdown about my upcoming 20th birthday. You’ve walked me through every aspect of being an adult, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Even beyond all that, you’ve raised me to be the type of women I’ve always admired, and I appreciate you for that.
6. Thank you for being more than my mother
You’ve always been my best friend, someone I could depend on, and my biggest supporter. You’ve always told me that I can do anything with a little mental power and practice, no matter how idiotic my ideas have seen. Even when I’ve failed, you’ve always been the first person to pick me back up and push me onto another project. You’ve been my biggest confidante and the person I laugh the most with. Just thank you for being my person.
7. Lastly, thank you for being my mom
I know the job isn’t the easiest, and I know half the time I don’t tell you how much I love you, but I really do. You’re my inspiration, the women I strive to be, and the funniest person I know. I love your loyalty, your honesty, your humor, and your motivational speeches. I love who you are and who you strive to be. I love you, mom. Thank you for everything you do.
