May 7th marked the end of another lacrosse season for so many teams, but it marked the end of a lacrosse career for four special seniors. As the buzzer sounded and I looked around the field, my eyes drew to you four and the tears that you shed when you realized it was over. I want you four to know the impact that you have had on this team and on each player because without you four, we would not have made it as far as we did this year. I want you to know that you were the heart and soul of the team and we could not thank you enough for the time and effort you put in in the years you were with us.
Thank you for teaching me what it means to be a member of this team. From the very start you four were who I looked up to. You came to practice everyday ready to take on any challenge and ready to put 100% into every drill that coach made us do. You showed me how hard you have to play if you want to win and that hard work beats talent every time.
Thank you for your perseverance and your strength. In the middle of the season we were cursed with injuries and not one of you were spared. I watched you work through the pain silently and complain free, doing everything you could to make sure that you could be on the field with us come game time. You four showed me that I could play when I was sore or in pain because there were people on the field battling worse injuries than me. You showed me that pain is truly temporary because if you could ignore it for sixty minutes, then so could I.
Thank you for making the team better. Everything you have done this year and every year prior has made the program what it is today. You have pushed every single girl on the team to play harder, whether it was playing tough defense or driving fast to goal. Good was never good enough and every day you pushed us to be better than just ‘good.’ Thank you for pushing me to be better than ‘good.’ Any question I had, you answered, and every time I asked for help, you stayed and worked with me until I got it right. I want to thank you for the effort you put in with me because your support gave me the confidence to be better.
Your years here have not gone unnoticed. Your heart and your effort will continue to be with the girls in this program for years to come. Thank you for giving all you had to us. I have been honored to play with each and every single one of you.
