A Thank You Letter To My Grandparents

If you're anything like me, then you're blessed to have or have had two such amazing people in your life; your grandparents. I was fortunate enough to have known both of my amazing grandparents. I think I have two of the coolest grandparents in the world...actually I know I do because I'm in an iMessage group chat with them both and who else can say their grandparents even know how to work an iPhone? My grandparents are as good as they get and I have so much to be thankful for.

Thank you for showing me the world. Traveling the world with you both will forever be one of my favorite memories that will last me a lifetime. From Universal Studios in Florida to Wine Fest in Germany exploring the world with you both will forever be one of the greatest experiences in my life and there's no two other people I would rather share that with.

Thank you for giving me the best momma in the world because I have no idea what I would do without her or where I would be without her by my side.

Thank you for sneaking me 20 dollar bills in "hand shakes" when mom wasn't looking because you knew if she saw she would be mad. Those really helped me fill up my gas tank and buy those extra shirts at the mall we all know I don't need.

Thank you for the countless shopping trips. From fighting the rush of the holiday shoppers in December to spontaneous trips to the mall over the summer, they will always be a few of my favorite days.

Thank you for making sure I never (ever, ever, ever) leave your house hungry. Even if I just stop by for a few minutes I know there will always be a mini can of Dr. Pepper in the fridge with my name on it.

Thank you for always taking me out to dinner. You both know how much I love food, and I can always eat. From The Turn, to The Waterwheel, and now a few favorite, The Village Grille, I always enjoy dinners out with you guys.

Thank you for being such fun grandparents that I can laugh, have fun and keep secrets just like I would with my high school and college best friends.

Thank you for cheering me on at my regattas. Hearing your cheers and ringing of the cow bells always gives me a reason to push harder and cross the finish line. I can always tell when you both are on the sidelines ringing a cowbell and screaming "Go Suffern."

Thank you for being such great role models,

Deedee, I'll always admire how much you help with "Adopt a Family" during the Christmas season to ensure the less fortunate have just as an amazing Christmas as anybody else, you really showed me how generous people can be.

Pop, it never fails to amazes me how dedicated you are to the Tallman Fire Department, you're always the first one to a fire call no matter if it's 2 p.m. in the afternoon or 3 a.m.

Thank you for buying us a swimming pool for your backyard when mom and dad said we couldn't get one at our own house. Coming over on hot summer days and having "cannon ball" competitions by rating the splashes 1-10 on how big they were, was always something I looked forward to.

Thank you for the 10 pound care packages you send me at college, they always put a smile on my face and make my day. The packages seem to get bigger and bigger every time, always filled with all of my favorite snacks. Sometimes I even need my guy friends to help me carry it from the front desk up to my room because they're so heavy.

Thank you for showing me the true meaning of family, and giving me one that I truly wouldn't be able to live without.

These thank you's don't do justice on all I have to be thankful for from the both of you. Thank you for making me the women I am today. I appreciate everything that you do for me and I love you both.

Xoxo,

Your youngest granddaughter

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
