Dear Mom,
For anyone who has not yet had the chance to meet you, I can say with all honesty that they are really missing out. Words can’t describe how thankful we all are for the countless efforts you make to keep our home and our sisterhood at its absolute best. Living in house has really given me a lot of perspective on just how much you do and how genuinely you love every single one of us. Even as a member of my sorority, it’s hard to love so many girls in the unconditional way that you do. I can’t even imagine how you still manage to work as hard as you do for all of us, even after putting up with our unnecessary shouting while watching TV in the sun room, or the cereal bowls we leave out night after night in the kitchen.
Thank you, Mom, for giving us your all every single day. Every year for Christmas you throw a party, and plan the whole thing yourself. You spend hours and hours baking cookies for us and making ornaments for the seniors. Your Christmas party was one of the highlights of my freshman year, as I’m sure it will continue to be. For a long time before coming into college, I lost a lot of the holiday spirit, but you have somehow gotten all of us excited for every single holiday we get to spend in the house with you.
As a freshman last year, I was a little worried at first about coming to the house when I wasn’t invited. You made it so that all of the new members feel like they have a home away from home. It’s the first time a lot of us have ever been on our own, and you seem to really understand that. There will never be enough thank you’s to truly express how much we appreciate all that you do to make each of our lives that much easier.
Thank for just being the incredible person that you are. I remember one of the first times I came to the house after bid day you walked right up to me and asked me how I was doing. You told me all about yourself and took a genuine interest in my life. From then on you remembered my name, which is not an easy task if it’s just one amongst hundreds.
During recruitment, you always found a way to make us smile, even if they were the smiles of slightly angry, sleep deprived sorority girls. You’re understanding, kind, generous and you really have a heart for every person you meet. I only hope that one day I become even half the woman you are. You set such a great example for all of us every day. You keep us accountable and let’s be honest, it’s pretty cool that you don’t ask us where we’ve been out so late when we come home at 2 a.m.
It’s so important that we thank you for all that you’ve done to not only keep our chapter strong, but each of us as individuals. I’m so grateful to have had an incredible House Mom like yourself to lean on during these four years of college.
Sincerely,
Every Sorority Girl, Ever
