A Thank You Letter To My College Best Friends

In life, you go through so much with friends from all different stages of your life. Some who you grew up with in elementary school, some from middle and high school, some from sports teams, some from summer camps, and some from college and internship experiences. I honestly do not know what I would do without my college group of best friends.

From day one and even before that, you have been there no matter what the situation was, and for that I am truly grateful. After the recent death of a friend in Oklahoma, I feel the need to let you all know just how much you mean to me. because time here on Earth is short and never promised.

So, here’s a list of thank you’s for my forever best friends:

Thank you for always being by my side.

Some people never find their nitch in some places, but you all opened your arms to me and accepted me for who I am, and you did not once try to change me. You defended me when the students in our school acted immature and started rumors and you lifted me up through the hard times. Thank you for always being by my side for both the positive and negative times.

Thank you for staying up with me and pulling all-nighters.

I’m pretty good at time management, but there were those crazy assignments we all put off, just to pull an all-nighter because we could. Thank you for spending long hours in the information commons and library with me so that I could be sure to get my A on the assignments and so you could too. Those all nighters will never be forgotten and those assignments will always be a positive side of college.

Thank you for coming to all of my games.

Thank you for supporting me through football season, both as a cheerleader and team manager. Sometimes, even the most spirited people need their own set of cheerleaders behind them to help motivate them and inspire them. Thank you for helping with hair and makeup when I had to look perfect and for helping me with all my crazy spirit ideas such as banners, posters, scrapbooks, blankets and goodie bags for the boy’s lockers. Without your help, I defiantly would have been up longer trying to accomplish those tasks.

Thank you for crazy trips to Walmart when we had nothing better to do.

I will never forget our crazy Walmart adventures no matter what time was. After all, we got creative and took some awesome photos goofing around and made the most out of being bored.

Thank you for encouraging me to go to “that party.”

Not many college students have to be convinced to go to a party, but when the situation came up, you convinced me it was the right decision and went with me. And for the two of us that weren’t there, thanks for calling and telling me to go to that party anyways, no matter who was there. Thank you for making sure I could say that I did party in college and was able to maintain a high GPA, even if I truly only went to a party a handful of times.

Thank you for helping me with the subjects I just did not understand.

Without you, I would not have realized that I was over studying for that exam or taking too many notes in class. Thank you for reviewing my flash cards and helping me fix them, so that I could get over that speed bump and end up passing with a fantastic grade.

Thank you for being my shoulder to cry on.

Sometimes, a girl gets hurt by someone and just needs that one person to listen and let her cry. Whether it’s the boy who broke her heart or the boy that never noticed, or because of the death of a friend or loved one, you were right there with your arms around me letting me cry it out and telling me that that boy isn’t worth it you are beautiful and he’s missing out on an amazing person or the remember the good times and memories. Without you, those times would’ve been six times harder.

Thank you foe watching every football game with me and getting into it as much as I am.

Whether it was the Patriots, the Cowboys, the Dolphins, the Redskins, the Mountaineers or the Fighting Irish, thank you for putting on the game and bonding with me over some French onion dip and chips, bbq cups and of course bud light and sangria.

Thank you for always being a phone call away when I had an extra ticket or tickets to a country concert, Patriots Game at Gillette or a Red Sox game at Fenway.

There was never a doubt in my mind when I had an extra ticket for someone to come to an event with me just who would come along and when I'd call you would always accept and come along. Thank you for sharing in these special events because with you there they became even more special and more fun! Thanks for coming along and for watching out for the puke at the country concerts so I would not have an anxiety attack. You're a champ!

Thank you for accepting me into your family and for allowing yourself to be accepted into mine.

We aren't just best friends, we are sisters. And even our parents see it this way. Thank you for being the older sister or younger sister when needed and for always being part of my family and for allowing me to be a part of yours. Together our families make a great huge one and I think it's wicked awesome!

Thank you for interning in our nations capital with me.

I never would have done a semester away interning if you did not agree to try it out too. Thanks for hopping on the train to our nations capital and interning and exploring Washington DC with me. It was an amazing semester and I will never forget all of the amazing things we explored and learned! And of course all the cupcakes we tried!

Thank you for being my roommate.

Thank you for being my roommate and putting up with my pink and purple Christmas lights, 100,000 photos of those I missed from home, my neon orange and blue comforter, my ten thousand pillows, my nighttime music playlist, my morning music playlist, my natural soaps and products, my stuffed animals and my fan and extra heater. I come with a ton of clothes, pillows, you name it. Thanks for not only putting up with me, but with all of those other things I come with.

Thank you for helping me deal with homesickness.

If it were not for you, I would have headed back home to New England before I was able to even experience Washington DC. Without you telling me everything would be okay, that I’d adjust to city life and not want to leave, and without you teaching me how to use public transportation, I never would have had the most amazing semester of my life.

Thank you for traveling down to Washington DC to visit.

Most best friends would rather spend their spring break with their boyfriends on somewhere on a beach, but you drove all the way to DC to spend it with your two best friends away on internship. Thank you for making that drive, I know it’s not an easy, or short one but we loved seeing you both and making memories. You both brightened our semester and showed just how amazing you both truly are.

Thank you for taking care of me when I was sick or hurting from my wisdom teeth.

I know I can be the biggest baby when it comes to being sick or wisdom tooth pain, but you were right there helping me when I needed you. Thank you for being there no matter the hour, reason or even if we needed to metro out to get baby teething tablets to stop the wisdom tooth pain until I could get them pulled.

I could go on forever with this list of thank you's, but at some point you'll get tired of reading so much after all, I am the book worm. But before I stop here's one more thing I have to thank you for.

Most importantly.....

Thank you for being YOU.

YOU are amazing. Wicked awesome. My best friends. My sisters. My cheerleaders. My therapists. My partners in crime. You all make my life exciting and fun and I love you all with all my heart. Here's to a million more years of our life long friendship and a million more memories!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
