When I was little, no one noticed how short I was. In fact, family members often commented on how much I had grown...until, you know, I stopped growing. From that point on, reunions consisted of people telling me that I could still get taller. Now that I'm 19 (and my 10-year-old sister is literally the same height as me) and people in college look at me like I'm a middle school student who is lost on campus, I realize that I'm going to have to deal with being short. Here are just some of the struggles I face almost every day.
1. People enjoy dangling stuff out of your reach.

2. All of the jeans/dresses you try on will need to be hemmed.

3. Your feet don't always reach the floor.
Tall chairs are the worst. It's not easy getting on or off of them, and no matter what you do your legs are going to dangle helplessly.
4. Everyday tasks become a workout.
Everything from cooking to shopping is more difficult when you're short. It seems that everything you need is just out of your reach, and you're going to have to climb to get it.
5. You get in debates about how tall you actually are.
I'm 5'1" and a half thank you very much, not 5'1". That extra half inch is incredibly important, and you telling me it doesn't matter will only irritate me.
6. You're always looking up to talk to people.
Pretty much everyone I talk to is taller than me, so I'm always having to look up to feel normal talking to them. I mean, I don't really want to stare at their chest or shoulders the whole time because that's just weird and uncomfortable.
7. People find it necessary to comment on your height.
Don't tell me I'm short like I don't already know. How am I supposed to even respond to that?
8. You always seem to get stuck sitting/standing behind tall people.
Oh, there's a concert going on? I wouldn't know because this one tall dude is standing in front of me and refuses to move. But it's cool. Life's cool.
9. Walking with people who have long legs is never easy.
Just one of a tall person's steps is equal to like five of mine, so please be considerate of that. Slow your pace for those who aren't blessed with long legs.
10. People enjoy using you as an armrest.
If you want to see me angry, do this. I'm not your personal armrest; I'm a person (albeit a short one) and should be treated as such.
