A breezy, bright, sunny afternoon. Soda and popcorn. Sitting beside a football field surrounded by hundreds of your closest friends. Attending a Carolina game is a right of passage for a student, and while men's basketball is doubtless Carolina's crowning glory, it is my personal opinion that our football games should not be overlooked.
I love the loud music heard from the speakers and the tunes the band plays. I love the fog that shoots into the air when the team runs on the field and the cheering fans covered in body paint. If you are one of those people, I applaud your school spirit. I love yelling after a first down and singing (followed by jumping up and down and yelling) the Alma Mater. Tailgating all morning, sitting in the stands all afternoon, and going to grab dinner at 'Sup Dogs afterward makes for a wonderful Saturday. Plus, I absolutely love our mascot! There is so much energy and excitement during a game day that it is easily the highlight of a week.
While football in the Autumn is an American tradition no matter where you go to school, seeing Carolina blue stretch as far as the eye can see makes the games a little bit better. There is nothing quite like attending a game at a school that you call your own, and being able to show everyone that you are a Tar Heel. It feels like home. So, to sum it all up, nothing beats a Carolina football game. Because who are we kidding? We are the University of North Carolina.
