Is it possible that the American Lifestyle that was thought to lead to greatness, has cursed us into a time where life isn't life anymore? Obviously, everyone alive has life, but are they really living?
What really is living?
When I say the American Lifestyle, I mean our fascination with greatness. Since the beginning of our nation, we have been overtaken with a different kind of greed. Greed has always been a damning factor in every society, but Americans have redeveloped the meaning. Greed is the outcome of unhappiness, if you really think about it. Our society is based on money, of course. It has to be to survive; any society does.
But the greediness has been transformed into the need to be the best, the richest, and the coolest.
This all stemming from our society's push of individuality in such a way that the only way to be an "individual" is to succeed. But success is simply defined by how much one makes a year or their type of job. If someone were to ask 50 people this question, “Who are you?”, the majority would state their occupation. To me, that’s sad. We have lost all of our uniqueness, our singularity, all because we are brain washed into thinking “success” brings you happiness, which in turn should mean that you're truly living...right?
I feel like I am always haunted by the idea that i’m wasting my life.
We are raised by a society that has forced us to figure out what our occupation is as soon as possible. Since our first words were spoken as kids, we have been asked constantly, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Being happy is not a good enough answer, or should I say not the answer everyone expects. It just seems so pointless to me: going to school, working until you die.
What is the point of living when the only thing you're living for is to work?
Growing up is giving up. Now by no means do i mean quit your job and live off the land. It's what you choose to really do with your life, and not your occupation. Make yourself a better person; I mean you are the only one who has to live with yourself every second of every day until you die.
Look closely at everyone; study them. You learn the most when you're just learning about people. People generate the world. Also, look closely at yourself and compare what you see.
Take in the information you find different and ask yourself why?
It’s neat what you can come up with. What I have figured out is that everyone is who they are because of their upcoming. By that I don't really mean as a baby--babies are babies, they don’t know everything, yet. But when they start to grow into toddlers, their surroundings create the baseline for who they are going to be. They are constantly taking in everything around them and trying to comprehend it. How they comprehend it, starts to create views which then creates their personality further down the line. Psychology teaches us this but it’s really cool to actually see it with your own eyes.
But how does this correlate? If everyone is what they see, then it creates a huge cause and effect downfall. Yes, I say downfall; we are a brainwashed generation.
The ending effect is that people are hooked on being something else, being what society wants them to be, therefore, no one is truly living their life.
