Colorado has a lot to offer when summer time comes around. Whether you are in the mountains or on the plains of this beautiful state, you are bound to find something to do. So, if you are trying to find something fun to do this summer here are some places to visit and activities you can do that make for a good day or weekend trip with the friends and family.
1. Estes Park
Right along the Big Thompson River, Estes Park may seem like a small town at first, but it has some neat landmarks, activities, and scenery. You can go there and just walk around town, whether it be for a delicious ice cream cone or a burger from Penelope's. Estes Park also has the Stanley Hotel, which is a neat historical landmark that you must get a little tour of. You also have fishing, camping, white-water rafting, and horseback riding.
2. Glenwood Springs
Glenwood offers some unique historical landmarks and plenty of outdoor activities. You have the springs, which makes for a nice day with family and friends. You also have to take a look at the Famous Hotel Colorado where people like President Theodore Roosevelt and the Molly Brown have been guests. And don't forget Hanging Lake and their adventure park. If you want to go on a nice hike or swing off the side of a cliff, those are the two places to go.
3. Durango
If you happen to be here, you have the option of taking the famous Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. It is a railway that was opened up in the late 1880s. Durango is also close to the well known Cliff Dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park, where some of the first settlers of Colorado made their home.
4. Fort Collins
This college town close to the foothills of the mountains has plenty of restaurants and outdoor activities and festivities for people to enjoy. If you are around there for the summer, get a group of friends and head up to Horsetooth Reservoir for a hike, swim in the lake, and picnic. For a night out, you can head to the Sundance Steakhouse and Saloon for some good food and swing dancing.
5. Greeley
If you are from Greeley, everyone knows that the one thing we look forward to is the Greeley Stampede. Get your cowboy boots and hat on and head to the Stampede this summer for some concerts, rodeos, food, and carnival rides. This would make for a good day or night out.
6. Denver
Can't forget about a day at the Rockies game or walking around downtown Denver. You have some restaurants with delicious food and summer festivals and parades. There are also museums and the Denver Zoo.
