Every year I make a summer bucket list. I usually lose it a week into summer and forget all about it, but not this year. Soon there won’t be “summer vacations” anymore because I will truly be an adult with a full time job. So, this is the summer to complete a full bucket list. As you’ll see, this won’t be a bucket list full of things like “cliff jumping” or “sky diving," it is going to be full of truly realistic and heartwarming things that I want to accomplish and do by the time fall comes back around. It is going to be a fun and true summer. This is going to be a summer to remember:
1. Make bank.
I am going to work my summer job and save the money I earn rather than blow it at summer concerts and on clothes that I don’t need. I am learning that I don’t need to see every local concert and that I don’t need the newest trending jean shorts that are at the mall.
2. Get my butt in the gym.
I am going to get into great shape this summer. I will work out regularly and not eat Taco Bell every three days. Working out is a great stress reliever and is good for the mind and body.
3. Spend more time with family.
I am going to cherish my time home with my family and make sure that I am not out with friends all night, every night. Although I will be with them, it is important to keep family first and spend time with them before I go back to school.
4. Don’t stress about love.
I am not looking for a summer love or someone to come and sweep me off my feet. I am independent and young and I don’t need the stress or troubles that come along with a significant other. The sun is shining, the grass is green and that is plenty to be happy about.
5. Learn to cook.
Since I’m kind of becoming an adult and living in an apartment next year, I figured I should probably learn how to cook. Currently, I can make cereal…and sometimes toast.
6. Make a new friend.
Whether it's a new coworker at my job or someone I meet on my morning jogs, I want to make a new friend this summer. There are so many people in the world and I hope to befriend some more.
7. Volunteer somewhere.
It always feels good to give back and even though I am busy in the summers, I want to volunteer somewhere. Helping at a local charity or volunteering at a local camp can help others more than we even realize it.
8. Stay happy.
Regardless of what my summer brings I want to stay happy. I want to remain smiling even if there is crappy weather, family issues, money problems, or problems with a significant other. I want to make this summer one to remember. Despite any issues this summer, my goal is to be happy and enjoy my time under the sun!
