7 Activities To Squeeze In Before Going Back To School

The summer is winding down...

The summer is not over yet, so that means that there is still time to make new memories, try new things, and learn something either about yourself or just learn something new. The greatest experiences that I have had is when I go and make memories doing something new or something fun with the ones that I love. Here is the list of things that I want to do before this summer is over.

1. Take the time to go and see my friends

As I have said in other articles, my friends and I have all been really busy working over the summer so we haven't really gotten a chance to get together. I am making it my mission to see my friends this summer before we all go hours apart again.

2. Pack for my apartment

This is something I am genuinely excited about doing, but before I can pack up my boxes, I might need to unpack from my dorm living... I admit it I have been home for two months and I have not unpacked all of my things and fully settled in. I might still be living out of a duffle bag. Maybe.

3. Get a tan

Tanning is honestly one of my favorite things about summer. I love going to the beach or the pool and swimming and then right after that tanning for a bit. I love being tan and even sunburns I don't mind too much because it leads to a great tan afterward.

4. Learn something new

Even though it' summer, I want to learn something new that I wouldn't have time to learn during the school year. I have tried to pick up French with the app Duolingo, but it's really hard to make the commitment and practice enough for it to actually stay relevant in my mind. I think with the last month that is left of the summer I will try again.

5. Go on a road trip

I haven't just taken a road trip for fun in a really long time. I don't have to go anywhere fancy since let's face it, I don't have a bunch of extra money to spend. Maybe I will go to the National Aquarium or the Zoo in D.C.

6. Take an entire day just to go to the beach.

This one has the potential to combine a couple of different things on my list. I could go on a road trip to a beach and relax the entire time I am there. I love beaches so much. Everything from the sand to the salty water, I am pretty much a mermaid because I feel most at ease when I am near water.

7. Actually relax

I need to give myself a few days to just relax and do absolutely nothing. Have a spa day, stay in bed all day, and truly relax for the first time all summer since I am so used to being constantly on the go.

The list of things that I want to do is a lot longer than this bucket list, but I know realistically with the amount of hours that I work and the hours that I commit to my school work that this list is the best that I can accomplish with the month that I have left. Let me know in the comments below: what are some things that are on your summer bucket list?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
