Being gay, bi, lesbian, trans, pan, poly, queer, etc is not a choice

Nobody decided to wake up one day and say “hey I think I like guys.”

Or “hey I think I like girls.”

No.

It wasn't something that was asked for.

Today, many people think people who identify themselves as gay, bi, trans, etc, do so because it’s a “trend”...but here’s what you don’t understand.

It’s not a trend.

Being gay was never accepted until recently.

So no, it is not a trend.

People are finally comfortable enough to identify with their true selves.

Do you know how sad that is?

Could you imagine having to hide your true identity?

Not being able to feel comfortable with who you are because of the world around you?

Being gay is not something that just came out of nowhere recently.

People that are gay, trans, bi, poly, etc were even around in the time of Shakespeare and have always been around.

They will always be around.

People in the LGBTQ community had to hide it because it was not accepted in society.

Now being gay is finally becoming accepted in our society.

And the problem is not the LGBTQ community, the problem is the people who don’t understand.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a man liking another man.

There is nothing wrong with a woman liking another woman.

There is nothing wrong with someone who identifies with the gender they are not born with.

Just because someone is gay or trans doesn't mean they are any less of a person

I am sick and tired of people misjudging people of the LGBTQ community.

Someone who does not identify with the gender they are born as does not have a mental disorder.

Someone who likes the same sex does not have a mental disorder.

People want to put a label on the community if you're gay, lesbian, trans, bi, trans, poly, etc. That’s not what society is used to, that's not “normal" there must be something wrong with you right?

Wrong.

People in our society like to put the LGBTQ community into a different category calling them different, disabled or whatever they call it.

But being gay is beautiful.

Being trans is beautiful.

Being bi is beautiful

Being lesbian is beautiful

Being poly is beautiful

Being pan is beautiful

Being asexual is beautiful

Every person, no matter what their sexuality, is beautiful.

And just because it was not always accepted into our society does not mean it’s wrong.

God loves us all.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
