Yes, I Still Visit My Old High School

Sometimes celebrating the "good ole times" isn't such a bad thing.

The holiday season can be tough for certain former high-school students.

Maybe your time in high school wasn't perfect, maybe you had a harsh breakup in high school and going back brings back bad memories. Whatever the reason may be, many people never look back when flipping the tassel on your graduation cap.

Except for people like me. I choose to go back once every year, specifically for a high school football game against our rivals that have dated back to the 1960's. And guess what--I'm proud.

In my opinion, one of the worst things that you could do is distance yourself from hometown friends. I'm definitely guilty of doing it to some degree, and it's no shocker that when your long-time high-school friend goes to school in California and you in Massachusetts, you probably won't talk to each other as much. However, going back to high school for a day flooded back so many memories that it felt as if I didn't have to speak to those people on an every day basis while away at college.

It was as if we just picked up where we left off.

One of the best things that going back to high school brings is a sense of closure. Maybe you were like some students and truly hated their post-high school life, regretting even leaving the school. It allows the person to attend an event without having an emotional pull towards it, but also allowing the person to feel a level of gratitude when going.

My advice to people wondering if you should go back to your old high school one day: do it. Nothing bad can come of it and most likely you'll run into people that you shared amazing and fond memories with in the past. On top of all this, it's an experience like no other.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
