College is awesome. You’re independent, get to meet great people, and have the chance to explore your passions. One of the downsides? Owning a dog is not really plausible, unless you have a steady income, an incredibly flexible class schedule, and a ton of people to help out. Even though you can't have a dog just yet, that doesn't mean you don't constantly want one.
It all starts when you see a dog, which happens very frequently. You’re minding your own business, and suddenly you see one. A dog. You can barely contain your excitement. You try to act casual, but soon you find yourself running over.
You ask the owner kindly (desperately) if you can pet their dog.
And, suddenly, it’s the best day.
You begin to daydream about what it would be like to have a dog to call your own…
You imagine picking out a puppy. You walk into that shelter and are swamped with possibilities.
Until you see The One. The dog that is destined to be your new best friend.
You can't wait for all the fun you two will have together...
All the mischief...
The two of you will grow old together...
Then you stop. You remember you can't have a dog. Not yet.
So you say "goodbye" and go home to wallow in your sadness.
Then you remember that when you graduate, you can get a dog. So you buckle down and study.
And count the days until you can get a dog of your own.
