Dogs are arguably the best pet in the world. They're cute, cuddly, intelligent, and loyal. Dogs stand by you when you're sick, sad, happy, and everything in between.
College is a tough time for everyone, and I think that dogs are a great addition to any collegiate home.
1. Dogs teach you responsibility.
It is a lot of work to train a dog and remember everything that goes into taking care of a high-maintenance animal. When a students gets a dog, the student learns responsibility since mom and dad aren't there to feed, water, walk, bathe, etc. the cute new addition.
2. Dogs relieve stress.
College is such a stressful time in life; there are a thousand things to do all the time, and rarely enough time to actually get everything done. All of this adds extra stress on top on the student's plate. However, if said student comes home every night to a cute little dog waiting for them, a little stress is taken away. Some colleges have stress relief dogs available for petting during final exam week, having a dog at home is a constant way to make yourself feel better after a bad day.
3. Dogs can protect you.
Living alone at college can be a little daunting (especially in a sketchy city) and dogs are natural watchdogs. From puppyhood dogs have an innate instinct to freak out when they sense anything sour. If you have a dog in college, you'll feel safer going to sleep each night knowing that your best bud has your back.
4. Dogs will save you from boredom.
Although college students do have a busy schedule, there's still a lot of bored down time spent watching Netflix rather than being active. With a dog, there is never a dull moment. Dogs live for play time, 24/7, and they will always be up for relieving boredom and keeping students off the couch.
5. Dogs make you happy.
College is hard and sometimes lonely and you will eventually miss home and everything you used to know. Dogs provide a comfort similar to that of home sweet home, and they are more than likely to teach you selflessness, patience, and commitment.
So, obviously you should pause Netflix and go get a dog. Right now.
